Exclamation busted hose

ok the other day i was driving around just heading to my friends house. i wasnt going fast, wasnt overheating. but i noticed smoke coming from under my hood. i immeadiatly pulled over and opened up the hood. and then noticed raditator fluid everywhere. then saw that a hose had a huge hole in it, looked like it just busted. but i drove to my friends house and called an auto parts store. i explained to him that where the hose is, and he told me that it was the HEATER HOSE FROM THE THERMAL VALVE THROUGH THE FIREWALL. and that it was a dealer part. can n e one confirm this. its the hose just behind the distributor cap on a 1998 3.8.

Re: busted hose

Can you get a picture of the location? I'm not as familiar with the v6s as the v8s, I do know for my last 5.0s I had to dealer purchase the heater hoses from the block to the core at the firewall as aftermarket did not make them except for the goodyear kit, didn't need all the hoses though..

Re: busted hose

Sorry for the delay

That's an easy one.. take it off/take it in, and say you need a length of coolant hose in that length.. Most places (pep boys/napa) have REELS of it, they just cut it to length and you're good to go

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure it is the same inlet/outlet size.. you run into trouble on those that have a larger inlet/smaller outlet but I'm thinking that is just a normal stretch of hose

Re: busted hose

then i think im gonna heave trouble, it starts out that size, but it condenses into a smaller hollow metal tube, and then expands back in to the same size

Re: busted hose

Ohh I see that now, yeah the pipe is part of the hose.. it shouldn't be too pricey at a dealer.. unless you have them install it for you, then price would go up exponentially.. which is typical

Re: busted hose

It's expensive. I'd try to make my own up or go to a place that can put those compression fitting on to fab one up for you.

Re: busted hose

ive figured out how to fix it, or atleast the guys at napa told me i could. they said that i could just get a piece of hose the same length, maybe a lil longer, and clamp it on too the smaller pipe after cutting the old one off first. but my parents want it "done right" so they are taking it too a mechanic and getting charger double cuz its a dealer part. they think ittl be done by wednesday (when i start bak to skool) but i called the ford garage and ittl take 5 - 10 days just to get there!
