Re: rebuilding rearend

Before you take care of this, ever think of going for a 8.8 rear?

Other tools you will need is a torque wrench (might even need two), a puller, micrometer, gasket scraper and of course your basic tool set (pliers, wrench and sockets).

Re: rebuilding rearend

An 8.8 inch rear and a couple of jack stands...from what I've heard it's pretty straightforward, there might be a couple small things you need, someone with more knowledge about it would probably know. If it's a used rearend, you'll probably want to rebuild the tlok (rebuild kit).

I'd make sure you get an 8.8 inch from a 94-98 v8. The 99-04 8.8's are 1 5/8 inch longer than the 94-98's, may run into fitment issues with the longer rearend.

Re: rebuilding rearend

i would personally go with ford racing gears, they are PLENTY strong and I know they wont whine like richmond and such, some depending on metalic make up are more prone to whinel.
