Running with Snakes

I posted this in another thread already, but I need some guidance on how to get my car to run with the '99-'02 Cobras. Right now my car is stock and I want to know what do I need to get the power necessary to keep up with these Cobras

procharger 11psi kit should do the trick, with 3.73 gears and a t-lok.

All the above will be needed. A complete Heads, Intakes and Cam package. I would also consider a Forged rotating assembly as in forged Pistons, Rods. I would even suggest a 4.2 stroker. Then I would top it of with either a Supercharger, Turbocharger or even Nitrous. Then you will be a Cobra slayer unless they are also modded

Yeah your looking at dropping alot of cash (possibly enough to even put a DP on a cobra)

Quick smart way would to do a H/C/I and alot of nitrous :yup:

But as Corey said moment a cobra has one or two mods your done :yup:

Not true, if you were to put a S/C on a 4.2 that's well built, you can easily slay a modded cobra. The cobra weren't pushing that much power. I mean it's alot, but with a well built 4.2 that's S/C, you can easily have 330rwhp, that's about 390-400 at the crank, it would take more than 2 mods for the cobras to get there. Considering they only came with 320 at the crank so about 270 at the wheels. Don't worry man you got lots of room for them to even come close to getting the same rwhp and then they have the weight issue to deal with also. It's not a whole lot but 200lbs is alot when it comes to racing.

I never thought of that. Just to let you know, the Procharger kit is a part of the equation. Will the 7.5 rear end be able to hold that much power or will I have to step up to the 8.8? Also, what injectors would be best?

Let me just add something though I dont know what your warranty is on your car but going with a 4.2 or any heavy engine mods as well as ignition mods, chips or exhaust mods including a supercharger you will be kissing your warranty away.

your 7.5 rear end will be able to take up to around 350 hp with a t-lok on it. without a t-lok your rear end will only take around 300hp. A 8.8 would be a wise purchase because it will ensure longevity and it can hold up to 500hp.

Contrary to belief the 7.5 is a beefy rear-end, they used to use it in almost every car Ford ever made, well currently. It was stock on old GT's back in the day too. But the 8.8 is definately stronger, no doubt about that. But many people including myself have beated the 7.5 and the thing still holds strong. The 300 hp number is just something someone made up. What really matters is how well you maintain your rear. Change your fluids regularly (annually).

The rear will hold up as long as your not putting slicks on the thing and dropping your clutch at 4k rpms for a launch. If its just used for street applications youll probably be fine with the 7.5

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask, where can I get pistons, cams, and what would be the best exhaust system to use?

I got some 2.5" exhaust tubing I love.. 3.5" tips. Should be able to handle all you throw at it on a v-6, and sounds great.

That is great but he has a 2004. By saying **** warranties you could piss away thousands for absolutely no reason at all which could be used for real mods when the warranty expires

Keeping that in mind, what can be done to satisfy my thirst for power in the meantime? I've already approached 21,000 mi, mostly highway miles, so what could I put on right now until I can really get into the engine?

I don't know, you could probably get away with doing the heads and intakes for now since no one would really know those were modified since that work is all internal. A cam with it chainging your idle might give that away so you might wanna stay away from that. Also you could possibly get gear since you get a tune with a flash and it would appear to keep your EEC stock. So between those, that would give your pony some nice up and go.

This one would be pretty easy actually. Here are some possibilities...

1. NA 4.2 based stroker: Nearing 300 RWHP in a 5 speed.
2. ATI-fed 3.8 or 3.9 stock longblock: Some have surpassed 300 RWHP!
3. 4.2 based stroker w/ATI and porting would easily exceed 400 RWHP.

Your 3.9, a cam and blower would do the trick for sure.
