*sigh* I've about had it, at wits end!

So, heres the deal. 2wks ago, I installed a pair of BBK titanium colored valve covers. They look amazing! Set the whole motor off! Install itself was quick and easy.

So, had an oil leak on the driver side, fixed by using gasket maker. Ok? That problem was alieviated. Next issue is the "exhuast leak-like sound" thats coming from the passenger side of the motor. Bear in mind that I'm using the BBK valve cover gasket that they supplied.

Over the past 2 wks I've combed and touched every exhuast component on that side. Went as far as removed the header from the head. removed old gasket, put a new one on. cleaned BOTH surfaces. rethreaded and torqued the exhuast pipe end of the header. EGR is threaded and bottomed out correctly. *sigh*...............................

I'm STILL getting the exhuast leak-like sound. I'm about at my wits end. What could it possibly be?! Where else could it possibly coming from?! Could the rubber BBK gasket have anything to do with it? I'm anticipant to hear what you have to say.

Are you sure it's an exhaust leak? Without hearing the car, just throwing ideas out there - maybe valve cover doesn't have quite enough clearance and a rocker arm is hitting, or some valve covers have oil control shields in place which one might be misaligned or too close

Re: *sigh* I've about had it, at wits end!

I'm 80-90% sure its not an exhuast leak. Its "exhuast leak-LIKE" sound. Its a noise that sounds LIKE an exhuast leak thats throwing me of and pissing me off. I'm not getting any noise from the driver side. Only passenger. I looked underneath the BBK valve covers and wasn't any place to relocate the OEM oil control shields(I saw those, I know what you're referring to). I wasn't getting the sound BEFORE the installation, only after. With that said, I only touched the valve cover, throttle body, and EGR to install the valve cover.

Just trying to give you as much accurate, detailed, information as possible.

BTW- I have an 01 Mustang V6 (3.8) Supercharged.

Re: *sigh* I've about had it, at wits end!

with the engine running put your hand on the valve cover and see if you can feel something hitting the inside of the valve cover.

If the noise started right after the valve cover install it has to be something done with the install.

Come on now, that doesn't help.

If putting your hand on the valve cover doesn't help you find anything, get yourself a 1/2" piece of rubber hose about 2 feet long or so, and use it as a stethoscope. Put one end to your ear and move the other around the engine bay near the motor. When the sound gets a lot louder through the hose you've found your noise.

Sounds like the valve covers don't have enough clearance for the rockers. Do you have aftermarket roller rockers by chance?

Not trying to be a dick, but sometimes it's just best. Obviously he is having a hard time even narrowing down the issue so it may be best for somebody else to give it a try, instead of taking wild guesses from the internet

BBK valve covers suck. Ditch the bling and go back to stock... then see if you still have issues.

While your Avatar is cool... I don't like it. BTW (out of curiousity) what numbers are you posting?

Re: *sigh* I've about had it, at wits end!

I love my "V8 killer" stock blower pulley, smaller one said "Ferrari Killer". Too many people too a two second look at the motor, and assumed it was an 03/04 4V swap.

Makes zero right now, I pulled the car apart and put it into storage last Feb.
At it's prime it was a fully built 4.3L, 2.78" pulley on the ported M112, 10% OD crank pulley to spin it faster with a triple digit NX wet shot for good measure. Enough to handle pretty much any V8 Mustang who liked to poke fun at the 'girlie V6 Mustang'.

Re: *sigh* I've about had it, at wits end!

Since we're taking this off topic...

ETs? You must think everyone drag races. Not true, I don't drag the car. It's an open track car.

Yes, there are a several sixers pushing over 700 rwhp now. The highest (that is active in the world of internet forums) is right around 900 flywheel. Many of those are the pushrod 3.8L/4.2L cars, but there are seveal high hp 4.0L SOHC ponies out there as well.

Re: *sigh* I've about had it, at wits end!

Lol I love how guys get side tracked and chase rabbits on here lol.......sorry I haven't been on to get back at you guys......

Got the problem fixed. Ended up sayin,"Ef it" and buying a whole new set of BBK shortie headers, gaskets and all. Problem alieviated. In addition to fixing this, I also fixed my boost leak that I had, as a result, picked up an additional 2lbs of boost.

Now, my tunes all kinds of outta wack. trips and stumbles just and only under intial goose of the throttle....it then smoothens out. Heading to memphis to my tuner the 14th to fix that.
