Thinking about a cam

I want a put a cam in my car but when someone pulls up next to me I want them to know that I have a cam. I don't want a cam that you can't even hear loping. What would ya'll suggest I'm thinking of a cam from RPM. Any suggestions on a nice loping cam from them would be appreciated. Thanks.

If your going to do a cam you might as well do the whole topend at the same time.

My first question to him is:

Do you want it for the sound or for performance?

that doesn't make sense. If you don't want someone to notice you have a cam, but you still want the sound, then you're forced to reveal your cam.

not really possible, basically if you want a cam that does both power and sound you really want a cam that does sound

me, I like a noisy cam mine is an E-303, wide lca's but it doesn't make great power, but it makes good power and sounds awsome

on the other hand my friend has a popular grind that matches his combo well and doesn't have wide lca's, and is also a rapid rate cam, makes awsome power but only good sound... I haven't noticed there to really be a good in between

OK, he must have edited his first post. I could have sworn it said he wanted a sleeper, but I'll admit I was wrong. Oops!!

I think a cam like mine would be a good option, but maybe a slightly less duration. Also, you'll never get your 6 to sound like an 8 but you can still fool some most people. I have a post with my exhaust somewhere around here. I'll look for it. Or if you want to, do a search on cams and my posts.

making a cam really loop in a v6 probably will be a major let down, you wont be happy with the gains/sound.

Yeah I know its never gonna sound like a 8 but it would be nice to have a nice lope and some power with it and if u find a clip of your exhaust please post it. Preciate it. There is a guy with a 97' GTP and u can def. tell he has a cam. Many of ppl have thought it was a cammed V8.

Sounds pretty good.

OMG thats so mean. I know that my car will probably never sound like that but if I could get close to that and get some decent power too that would be awesome.

You don't want to try and find a cam. Get a form of of Rob's site and send him one. He may get back to you with a spec for your SPECIFIC car.

I don't know much but im looking for a cam right now and from what I've learned, 216/225 would overcam you.

cam specs

I would definitely give someone a call that has more experience with different cams in the 3.8. It's going to be almost impossible to get a cam with the "lopey" sound you want without seriously hurting low-end performance. And if you don't have the intake/heads flowing better than stock it's not going to help any on the top end either.

When it comes to putting a cam in an otherwise stock combo, sound and performance just do not go together. In the end, the you'll probably find the stock cam is actually a decent cam when everything else is stock too. Although I'm not a 3.8 expert, that is definitely the case with 5.0's and I would guess it is probably still true in this case.

You can get a ton from upgrading the stock cam but the sound wont change how you would want it to.

Yes I like the sound of it too!! I can definately get you a cam that would get you get you a nice mean rumble and get you some decent power to go along with it. But as a few other said, you need to do some porting and polishing. Mainly on the heads. The intakes aren't too bad, but they definately need to be helped.

That video of Stangin's car is what made me get into seriously modding my 6. It sounds so good but I think the other one where you back out of a driveway sounds better.

Yeah, all the RPM cams are based off my SPI theory when Mik and I were partnered
up but since we are not anymore (it was an amiable divorce ) the best
way to get a good cam is thru RDMotorsports. I did train RPM in porting in
the early days of his porting but not in camming specs. I am the GODFATHER
of V6 Mustang performance so the best thing to do is see me and Rob...

hey 97stallion. what all done to your car? besides a 4.2L and a cam. just wondering. cause i would think with the Godfather working on it. it would make alittle more power????

just looked at your homepage. and yea looks like that power is on the low side. with a home ported set of heads and intake with a few backyard tricks. and a smaller cam with stock headers and a stock Tb. my low compression turd made more HP and TQ.

guess the Godfather needs to take a few lessons from the young guns.

don't get me wrong RGR has done some good work. and knows a few tricks. heck we used to talk alot about somethings. but he is no godfather of the ford v6 performace.

Rob never has had a dyno tune at all, and we used all used parts with shadetree assembly. But mostly the tune IMO. The godfather comment was
referring to the fact that I was doing V6's for more than 2 years before
any other place was doing V6 Mustang performance in the USA. Fact.

well on his homepage it said he was tuned.

heck i got stock valves, used rods, alot of cheap parts. you know how i am RGR i make what i got work. and it works good when i am done. there is nothing special about my set-up right. in fact you said my set-up was not all that great in another post. so like i said. its a backyard thrown together 4.2L.
