still a noise coming from the car

it's the same real soft noise I got with my 7.5" rear end in.... so this leads me to believe it isn't the rear end making the noise... as the 8.8" shouldn't make the same pitched noise, or the same IDENTICAL noise.... it'd have to be the same equipment that was making it originally.... I'm thinking maybe when I slide into the ditch, I bent a rim or something.... even though it'd have to be very minor because my tires don't leak air.... any ideas? New rims in about 2 or 3 weeks... I may wait longer to get a deal, but the idea is that they're being purchased very soon.. I'm trying to find a reason the axle bearings went out. I'm of course meaning a reason other than lack of fluid. Is this noise harmful? It isn't a constant noise. It is speed variable... not gear variable. Also, if you were to graph the pitch of noise, it'd look something similar to "_--_--_____--_--____... and so on" if that makes any sense. It took me almost all the way to work to figure that pattern out, as it moves pretty quick, and the pitch doesn't change that much.... just enough. i guess it's more like a squeeking than a whinning.... but it's more like a drawn out squeek.... anyway, any idea?

new u-joints put in?

generally, a bent rim will cause i vibration rather than a sound

does the sound change when you press the brakes?

no.... there's like a rattle when I'm almost stopped, but that's because my exhaust touches the front housing of the HUGE rear end.. I thought I had trimmed enough away, but I hadn't, so that'll get fixed soon... the sound doesn't change when I apply the brakes. Would really bald tires make a noise like that? lol

as i said before, check your rear calipers, your pistons may be locked up. i know mine were bad when i did them, i had to replace the slide bolts

i told you that in your first post

and i'd recommend checking it before it eats through your brake pads and starts chewing the clips

guys... how could it be the same identical noise if it's an entirely new rear end? I don't have the same brakes or anything.. and the brakes aren't engaged when it's moving. What if it's coming from the front end? You know that ugly whine a lot of older vehicles have... that "wah wah wah wah wah" whining noise when they drive by... it's a lot like that. Maybe it's a front end thing... because I swapped the entire rear end... and it's IDENTICAL.... no pitch change or anything... no pattern change either.

Why do you ask questions and not listen to the answers?

Maybe you can get a video of it or a sound clip at least so we have an idea of what you are talking about.

I did listen to what you guys said... I REALLY don't believe it's the new rear end. How could a larger rear end make the same identical noise. I will attempt to get a sound clip. It will take me at least a day though.

the resonate frequency can be a biotch, if one of your lca's has become bent or uca and perhaps the bushing is messed up you can get alot of noise comming though the frame from this, should be very easy to find, just look at them... but I doubt this is it.

The axles can cause noise, the gears can, the tires can, the rims can, the rotors/brakes can, the exhasut can. So check all of these one by one, since you swaped in a whole new rear end dont worry with those until the last.

when you have eliminated all likly possibilities, the unlikly no matter how odd must be the reason. The key is knowing when you have eliminated the likly.

ah. i was under the impression that you merely swapped out the differential and shafts, while keeping your same brakes and whatnot.. my mistake... ok, if it's a squealing noise, i'd guess that your belt was loose, i had that problem when i installed my underdrive pulley... i dunno, your suspension could be failing, any number of things could be going on

try putting your car in neutral and doing a walk around, see if you can pinpoint where the sound is coming from

it only makes the noise when the car is moving.... better than that, it only really starts to happen above like 5-10 mph. So a walk around isn't part of the question. I am going to check all my bolts and stuff tomorrow, maybe Sunday. I have to tighten them down anyway. Hopefully the noise isn't anything bad.... and it'll go away with new rims and tires

ok, this is what I did tonight. I went to work, realized I didn't have work.... it's a 2 day off holiday.... 2 paid days, so I had some free time. I went to the gas station, and filled my tires. I probably over filled them just a little, but I also evened them out. I then got back in my car, and the noise was ALMOST GONE... does this mean it's the tires? Or just that them not being perfectly the same air pressure is causing something not to balance right?
