Lightbulb Flowmaster or Magnaflow?

which is worth buying?

is it better to get the whole piping or just the muffler?

how much hp would it add to the stock v6 motor?

Re: Flowmaster or Magnaflow?

You're gonna open a can of worms with this one.

It's a pretty biased field, I recommend hitting youtupe and looking for sound clips from both. I personally went with the MagnaFlow's but thats me. Find a sound you like and go with it.

Re: Flowmaster or Magnaflow?

As Greywolf said, everyone will give you their own opinion. I personally like Magnaflows on v8's - GT's, Cobra's, Mach 1's. I think they get too high pitched after about 2k rpms on the v6's. But again, that's my $.02.

I personally like Pypes, Ford Racing (basically borlas without the name stamped on), Borlas themselves (they are pricey), and dumped Flowmasters (they tend to rust out and sound bad) on 99-04 and 05+ v6's.

As stated above, listen to some sound/video clips. The best way is to hear a system in person, as cameras aren't always the best. Then decide which brand-sound you like the most and go with that.

The piping is up to you. You do have a few options.
I would run dual exhaust (it is a mustang), for appearance and mild performance reasons.

-You can have a shop use 2.25" piping (the same as your stock piping) and you won't lose backpressure. Just have them start the piping after the cats, and run it with your choice of mufflers.

-You can buy a full system from a company, which is 2.5" mandrel bent piping, comes with the mufflers and sometimes a midpipe (o/r x-pipe, catted x-pipe). You might have a very slight loss of backpressure with this piping.
*You can buy an h-pipe adapter (Pacesetter makes one) and bolt up a GT catback if you want
*Or you can buy a y-pipe "bolt on" styled system. Lately, these have been known to have direct fitment issues.

-A GT takeoff catback or stock v8 system can be had for cheap...it will usually just weld in, along with your preference in mufflers.

With any of these options, you could dump (attach turndown style tips to the mufflers) either right before the axle, or after the axle. It will give you a deeper tone and will not require you to have a GT bumper on 99-04's if you don't want one.

A midpipe - x-pipe, h-pipe isn't really necessary since the v6 engine is even firing. So don't worry about having one, they really don't do too much performance wise on v6's compared to two divorced (never touching) pipes.

You'll probably see 5-7hp with exhaust. Nothing too crazy, so don't let the manufacturers fool you when they claim 15-30hp instantly. You could see more when using long tubes, I personally think they aren't necessary on a v6 until forced induction or at the stage of building your engine.

This is what mine sounds like. I went with flowmasters (didn't want to pay the extra 15 bucks for magnaflows.)

Dead serious. I tried a ton of different muffler set ups on my car, then tossed it on the Dyno. (Mags, Spins, Borla, Bassani, Flowmaster, Dynomax etc...)Magnaflow and Spin Tech came out on top when it came to the real numbers. Spins gave me the most rwtq... and also sounded the best.
I also run Spins on my V8 Mustangs.

Re: Flowmaster or Magnaflow?

What numbers? Spin Tech made 17 rwtq more than stock. Test was run on a 100% stock motor... even with the silencer in place. Mag showed 12 over stock. Flows were at like 3 over stock.

Test was stock manifolds, stock 4 cat mid pipe, Y pipe split to dual mufflers.

Re: Flowmaster or Magnaflow?

on my old v6 I had a shop custom make mine, worked out fine. Only issue was they need to make the hoop over the axle as tight as they can to the floor and around enough to not hit the articulation that the rear end has as it come upward. This will help keep things from hitting~

If you can fine a bolt on kit thats fine as well or a GT take off exhaust (but hangers will have to be modified as you dont have exhaust cutouts). Then just replace the mufflers.

I wouldnt ever expect 17rwhp on a v6 with a bolt up catback but you never know. Dyno it before/after if you do that setup and let us know.

Re: Flowmaster or Magnaflow?

hey i was shopping around yesterday, i only want to get the muffler and the tip.

this shop told me that its better to get the whole cat back piping that will run me about 300. he said that you cant just get the muffler because the pipe is a 2.5 and it wont fit on the mustang.

he said that unless you get some shop to shrink it and make it fit to your mustang? what do you think? i just want the muffler and tip for more noise. i dont need the whole piping. its too expensive and im not looking to fix up my engine all hardcore.

what would you recommend? sonicpony03 mentioned that i can get a kit to make it fit?

Re: Flowmaster or Magnaflow?

I have the borla exhuast system from a GT mustang. its really quite until you get on it. It very crisp clean sound but its just to mild for me. I am actully thinking about going Flowmaster. However becuase of the way my exhaust is set up (side exit ) I am gonna have to go with the 80 series. again search you tube for exhuast systems and find the one you like and go from there. also post pics and video of your car once youre done

Re: Flowmaster or Magnaflow?

I have the magnaflow too and love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty(salt in winter kills an exhaust) so I got it here. magnaflow 43419, or you can try one of the vendors.

Re: Flowmaster or Magnaflow?

I have the Magnaflow too and love it, my brother got his used from craigslist but I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow Exhaust 43419, or you can try one of the sponsors here on the forum, they are allways having sales/specials. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.

thats interesting... i didnt know that you could get such high gains out of an H pipe let alone a Y pipe.
