Intake Manifold issue "stuck open"

My check engine soon light came on today on my v6 2004 mustang and I went to have it checked out and the computer reading said my intake manifold was stuck open. I was wondering if this meant i needed to have it replaced or what? Also, will it hurt the car if I continue to drive with the issue until I can get it into the shop? Any input would help! Thanks

Re: Intake Manifold issue "stuck open"

Any way you can give us the code number? Something doesn't sound right about that diagnosis...

Re: Intake Manifold issue "stuck open"

Ok, that code is indicating your ECU is reading the IMRC's are stuck open. It might just be a bad switch or might be actually stuck open. Really...the only way to find out what is going on is to pull the intake and physically look, not fun I know.

It should be ok to drive it until you get it looked at, but I would highly recommend getting this looked at sometime soon.

One thing you might could try is to run some seafoam through the intake and see if it might clear up any problems.

Here's a discussion on the same code on a ranger:

And another breakdown for you:

Re: Intake Manifold issue "stuck open"

The IMRC butterflies being stuck open won't hurt anything. The 99 and 00 6ers don't even have them and if you get the intakes ported, they remove them anyway.

Re: Intake Manifold issue "stuck open"

Yeah, my IMRC defaulted closed. didn't find out it died till I got it on the dyno. Come to find out this is common problem on our generation V6 mustangs. So, to re-enforce what "Horse" said. No, it won't hurt anything. Matter in fact, you're better off without it.
