What kind of intake should I get?

I,m trying to decide what kind of intake is best for my 2000. Cold air, short ram, k&n filter? What is the best? Is rain really a problem for cai?

Re: What kind of intake should I get?

Rain isnt an issue if the CAI is just inside the fender hole (not all the way down to the bottom of the front bumper) aka like a MAC cold air intake.

In my 01 v6 I had a MAC intake, looked good and performed fine. The price wasnt super high. I personally wouldnt spend much as they wont help but like 5rwhp~ and a tad bit in gas mileage and sound (they do help the exhaust sound better and they whistle at the right rpm)

Ebay has cheap ones that work fine but look cheaper~

Re: What kind of intake should I get?

You shouldn't have too much to worry about, but I'd reccommend a regular cold air intake, because if it comes with an enclosed box than rain isn't an issue. Watch out for oiled filters, if you over-oil it than oil can be sucked into the MAF Sensor and cause some serious issues. I had a friend with a BMW Z3 who's CAI killed his MAF sensor and throttle body.

I have another friend with a 07 v6 stang, he's got an AirRaid System that he bought from AmericanMuscle, It works pretty well and sounds terrific.. that is if you like the whistle.

Re: What kind of intake should I get?

Any CAI will work. They all do the same thing, don't believe anything that K&N, Brute Force, Volant, or any other company tells you. You'll see on average 2-4hp gains from just the intake. A BombZ one from ebay will work, just like Spector said.

For the same HP, you can take off the stock silencer and use a drop in K&N filter and save a few $$.

Re: What kind of intake should I get?

you will gain more power with a full cai rather than just dropping an air filter in but not much more~ its mostly for looks.

can't get a better deal than that! and usually it takes a dyno tune or at least an off the shelf tune to get all 5hp... I know a guy that actually installed air intake and his muffler on a dyno to see what difference they made with a new tune, (granted this as with a 4.0) stock it had 185 at the wheels, with air intake and tune it hit 194, and with a dynomax cutout right before the muffler it hit 208rwhp

Just look for the best deal, I like RAI intakes or intakes that stay in the engine bay as they are much easier for maintenance and at least on my car make more power since there are fewer bends in the intake.

I totally agree there, but if it stays in the engine bay it is no longer cold air anything under that hood will circulate around and go through intake. Both sides have a disadvantage and advantage.

I purchased mine from american muscle & it fit & looks just fine. Not too much gain in the horsepower department. But for $65.00 to my door you can't beat it.

Re: What kind of intake should I get?

I have a 04 v6 and when i put my cai in i noticed a little difference in highway driving little more juice but mostly for the sound it gives the car. mine is in the fenderwell and it really does sound good when it sucks in all that air.

Re: What kind of intake should I get?

I know spectorV said rain isnt really a problem if its just in the fender, but i do drive it daily, and though there isnt too much rain in texas, it rains hard when it does rain. will splashing puddles or hydroplaning be a problem?

Re: What kind of intake should I get?

Well i do alot of highway driving(FL) and if its raining hard and your going 60 mph and water splashes or you hit a puddle it could get in there and make the filter wet which is what happened in my case but probably not a huge deal car still ran great

Re: What kind of intake should I get?

What CAI would you recommend for an 04 mustang? The intake linked is a good deal but it says it only works for 99-03 mustangs.

Re: What kind of intake should I get?

Do you guys think that the intake here Mustang V6 Cold Air Intake Kit at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! will work in an 04 mustang? It says 99-03 on the page but I'm pretty sure my intake system is identical to those models...

Re: What kind of intake should I get?

some cai's stick the filter right in the fender well, those wont get water or get wet easily. The ones that go on down to the bottom of the front bumper, those will suck in water if its a heavy rain
