Had a speed challenge with porsche twin turbo

Since there is no street racing allowed, this was all on a closed course :bs:

I was coming home from work and I exited the highway to turn onto the city street I take to go home. I see a modded porsche TT (previous gen style... 964 or 993, couldnt tell) two cars ahead of me. I just pray I get to get behind him at the turn light. (Have to have one stop light off the highway, then another to go under the highway to get on main road.) I am behind him and there is a tauras or something next to him. blah. I'm just thinking "take off, i'll catchya" I look in my side view mirror and there is a brand new Ferrari F430 one car back of me to my left (my favorite car). But he's too powerful for me on this 100* day and in a turn only lane anyway. After two stop lights, the porsche finally clears some traffic and I am right behind him. We go thru a set of twisties at prolly 70+ just doing some nice handling moves and arrive at a stop light. This is where I would normally turn cause my house is off this street, but I saw he was going straight and I would line up next to him.

I look over at him and he doesn't look back, so I didnt know if he was just not paying attention to me right next to him in the corners or what. At green, I get going without launching as does he. We were both kinda like "are we gonna go?" He then takes off, and I punch the hell out of it. Hit 7500rpms and slam 2nd gear. I am already ahead of him by now but then I hear a loud POP! and there is another turn right ahead of me. I look over and it was him backfiring as he upshifted. My pause let him catch up and equal me, so I punch it again in 3rd and we're off. I think we shut down by about 80 again, and he pulled a quick u-turn to go back to his street that we passed while racing and I did the same.

Wish I knew what he had done to his car cause he was backfiring big time. Like he replaced the turbos and his car was pretty darn quick. I looked up his car on the internet and couldnt figure out what he had. It looked like a 964, but it was clearly badged "twin turbo" and the only twins were the 993s+. He may have put a 993 TT engine in his lighter 964. Dunno, but it was just a hair slower than me. Wish we could have gone in a straight line, but then again, it was amazing to race someone with a turn in the road. Need power and handling to keep up.

was thinking about it. but Zim talked me out of it. Not gonna do any big mods for a while. I am doing the "pay off visa" mod right now instead

But I am planning on putting a new FMIC and lower IC piping and either a 75 shot of nitrous or alcohol/water injection and running 25-26psi constantly. That's about all I can do other than major work like new turbo, head work, etc.

i too am thinking about h2o/alky injection. one of our club guys run it and loves it. and its what, like 300 for the coolingmist setup? and has the ability to cool the air below ambient temps, and pump up the boost and fend off knock. add alky injection and some C16 and you can run 30psi, as long as youre head gasket doesnt give.

no, just a modified GSR.

The RS and MR weren't out when I bought mine. I wouldn't really want either one of them though. RS -- I like some sound deadening and a/c and stuff
MR - too much of a price hike for small changes, IMO.

Re: Had a speed challenge with porsche twin turbo

shoot, I go up against everything I want. GT's, Cobra's... it's fun. Went up against a Corvette today.. just for fun. Last week, Trans Am. It wasn't a "race"... just like hot rodding around, neither of us trying to "beat" the other.

Re: Had a speed challenge with porsche twin turbo

^ thing is that nobody wastes their time on me since they figure i'm a stock 6. only that one time where i told the story about that damn hoda has anyone ever tried to race me. or if i do get an opportunity it's on a busy street or somewhere i know lots of police are. one of these days i'm gonna surprise some cocky *** kid and embarass him in front of his gf.

Re: Had a speed challenge with porsche twin turbo

I embarass ricers all the time... just call my car a "wok" (for cooking rice... yeah, I know, it's a stretch). Anyway, mine looks like a GT, just no GT badging.

The only time I've had to embarrass some guy in front of his g/f was when I was coming home from work late one night. Guy in a GT gets even with me and starts jumping a little. I really didn't want to race, but then we caught red. He's staring at me, and his g/f's in the car. Just had to do it. I had him by a car length before the end of the intersection :p

As for the confidence, I know what my car should and should not be able to beat. There is just A LOT more in the "should be able to beat" column. Once I get my new clutch and get my alcohol injection fixed, in the next week or two, I expect even more to go into the "should beat" catagory...including ferraris and the like. I can already take C6's such.

Re: Had a speed challenge with porsche twin turbo

lol c5 and zo6 drivers hate losing. on the way home from a sac kings game i raced a new red one, and man he was pissed. after slowing down from 120 he does the ricer flyby, merges into my lane very close to me(almost cutting me off) and continues with his maneuver right off the freeway.

cant wait to see some better dyno numbers with the clutch and meth injection.
