Cai.

Just put on a CAI for my car thanks to my brother's birthday gift but the guy gave him this "Universal" one for Mustangs. It was a 94-04 I think, the thing had a hole that I didn't need, so I duct'd it up, the ****ing heat shield didn't fit into place with the bottom plugs so it's kinda dangling there. **** I'm so sick of CAIs. Easy to install but a real friggin pain in the *** to me.

yea you wont need the hole. My heat shield doesnt really fit right either.. I just bolted it on the bottom good and aligned the top as good as possible.

There is no "Universal CAI" for 94-04.

There are CAI's for 94-98, and 99-04.

Throttle body angle changes and total length changes are a major factor in this difference. It is possible you may have been screwed out of the correct CAI model. It happened to me.

I just put mine on too, bought it off e-bay, and nothing seemed to go right. I also have a hole I don't need, is there a plug I could buy for it? Does it hurt to leave it open?

Yes it hurts to leave it open.

Get a rubber stopper from a hardware store that will fit it.

HEEEEEEY don't say that, I read and used that article TWICE. Just my brother didn't ask around as to which CAI system to buy specifically. But the sucker works now, there's no whistle to the CAI system though.

Instead it sounds like an airy "Whoooooosh"ing sound, I talked to this guy at work who has a CAI in his Honda Accord and he said that's what his sounds like so I'm not worried. My 98 CAI was a whistle, guess it's just a different type of filter that changed the noise.

Glad you read it... thank you.

The secret behind the whistle is partically discovered. It's the air passing the throttle body when the TB plate is open at certian angles. Kinda like when you blow on a piece of grass between your fingers... it takes a particular force and angle to make a sound. Same principle as the whistling

That is actually PART of the CAI article now after I discovered commanialities between about a dozen or so stangs.

But I still cant explain why some dont make a sound.
