Supercharger worth it?

I recently found a thunderbird sc, The guy said i could get the supercharger, the lower intake, the thunderbird throttle body, the intercooler, the mounting brackets and tensioner pulleys for $300. Is it still worth trying to put it on my 99 v6? I know i would have to buy new radiator hoses and belts, and that u have to move some stuff around. hoses and belts $70. Would it be worth the time and money to swap? and would i need to do anything else?

Re: Supercharger worth it?

To put it simply, it wont work. You will need basically the entire engine. It does not just bolt up to your car even though they are both 3.8L engines.

Many V6 guys/girls are going with a 2003/2004 Cobra mustang superchargers (M112) with adapter plates etc. The end result is about 280-300rwhp/tq over the stock 135-155 using about 10 psi. The kit will cost about 2,000-3,000 dollars (there about depending on what you do) and will require a custom dyno tune so add in another 1000 dollars.

The only down side to this is that it is not intercooled, which means hot compressed air goes right into your engine. Some say this is not an issue... but I bet if a good cooling solution came out they would be the first in line lol, plus heat robs power. The cobras use a water to air heat exchanger that the v6 can not due to space requirements.

Any supercharger kit will run you 3000 and up though.

Yea, plus keep in mind if you can afford to mod it be ready to afford to fix it and accept that it may happen. It all of course depends on the level of modding, dont put a supercharger on the car and hope its reliable enough for a daily driver for years to come or anything. It may be but dont rely on it~

Re: Supercharger worth it?

You can make more HP with a Turbo, but remember it takes time for it to spool up and good luck with the piping on it.

Re: Supercharger worth it?

turbos are just as reliable but they have more parts and pipes but its not a big deal if you get a good kit
