Whats better?

Hello everyone, Im going to get some duals on my car pretty soon. I wanted to know which is the best setup for the v6. I was looking at this Steeda Exhaust . Is this a good deal? Or can i get something better for the price. And will i need to buy something else if i get that kit? Has anyone installed that kit onto their car? If yes, do u like it, or would u have rather bought a different kit.I also saw earlier this Magnaflow Exhaust . Do any of you guys have or heard this exhaust? Is this better than the steedas? Not money wise but performance. And which one will sound better? Well im not really good at this stuff, but are those kits true duals? or are they just bolt ons dat connect directly to the y pipe? Any other suggestions will be helpful too. Thank you! This site is awesome.

Are you going to buy some sort of H-pipe as well or have one fab'd up?

are you planning on doing the install or having someone do it (like a muffler shop)?

If I was you, I'd buy a set of gt takeoff's, they run under 100 bucks, get an exhaust shop to put them on as true duals, install should be around 100, if you're not satisfied with that sound, you can always go with different mufflers. I have mach1 take off exhaust on my 02 v6 and I love the sound, the problem with loud exhaust is it'll make you sound like a civic driving around, trust me, I hear it all the time around here. You can always get a shop to fab up a whole system for you, won't be over 250 at the right shop.

I can't believe Steeda sells exhaust systems at that price. That's ridiculous.

Go with GT takeoffs or just have a shop fab you some up.

An H-pipe is definitely a good idea with a V8.

That is a good price. Magnaflows can run around $140-$160 a pair so that is a very good price.!!!

Well, I'm assuming this exhaust is going into the V6 you have (not to be confused by your handle - 87gt). If that's the case, you might want to reconsider getting the Magnaflow system you linked to. It is a 2.5" system. You're gonna lose a lot of low end torque with that system. Unless you already have or plan on some major engine mods in the near future (including some kind of forced induction), you're definitely gonna feel the loss in the lower revs. If you can find some GT take-offs, go for it. They're a 2.25" system - much less low end torque loss, and still plenty of flow capacity for mods later.

By the way, you don't NEED and h-pipe on a 3.8 since it's an even firing engine, but many people have them for the added structural stability (like me). You'll also need a set of hangers for the passenger side pipes.

as long as he has all 4 of his cats, it makes no difference in torque, the cats provide more backpressure than the mufflers and tails as it is

It's mandrel bent stainless, which most aftermarket exhaust aren't. They are usually aluminized steel (which may or may not be mandrel bent) for the cheap ones. And plain steel, crimp bent for the muffler shop specials.

You do get what you pay for in this case. But smart money is on a set of take offs, stainless and mandrel bent for cheap.

Good luck with the 2.5" pipes. Let me know if you feel any loss of low end torque after the install.....

I just got the magnaflows installed yesterday. It doesnt feel like i lost any torque. But i was sort of dissapointed with the sound. It sounds more like a G35. It sounds nothing like a stock Gt lol.. So i might have to change just the mufflers in a while. Any suggestions on which mufflers to get?

First off the mufflers are new and will take a couple of weeks to get to what will be the normal sound. When you install flow thru mufflers you dont have manufactured sound from chambers or baffles that create artifical sound. Flow thru have glass or other synthetic packing in them and it takes a couple of weeks of the packing to settle and the constant heating and cooling or expansion and contracting of the muffler to get to the finished sound.

You have a V8 and dont need wannabee mufflers with baffles. Why do you say it does not sound like a stock GT. Dont you have a GT????

Exactly what are you wanting in a sound. I have heard hundreds of V8's with Magnadflows and they sound terrific. If you syill have cats they could be clogged mine were and they were only 5 years old

Okay just to clear up things .. I have a 87 gt and a 2001 v6. But i was trying to make my daily car to sound a little better or as close to a stock gt. What i have now on the v6 is the bolt on kit from magnaflow. So its not a true dual. So i will just wait a couple of weeks to see what will be the normal sound because i was dissapointed with the sound it has rite now.
