Catback ?

My stock GT muffler set up is to quiet. I need some opinions on the best fitting catback system made for the 94-98 models. I want my tail pipes to sit correctly. I've searched some other sites & you tube to look at a few. Kinda hard to tell looking at some of the pics. Thanks!

Re: Catback ?

I would say get a shop to custom fab you a cat-back exhaust with flowmasters or magnaflows, since those are the two most popular choices. I even went with flowmasters and it's a great sound. It growls at low rmp's, but after about 3500, you can tell it's a sixer.

Re: Catback ?

the best kits out there are made by Borla, but they are not cheap. cause they are stainless, but they will last forever. Unlike Flowmasters that rust out inside. I love the sound of flowmaster. Nothing sounds better on a stock car. but they don't last.

Re: Catback ?

buy a GT take off stock exhaust catback and have a shop fab up the connections~ then if you dont like the sound you can swap the stock mufflers for something else.

Re: Catback ?

I think he has the GT takeoff already. He just wants to be louder. I'd also have to say Borlas or Bassani's. They are the most expensive, but really do sound the best out of the other brands available.

If you don't want to spend that much, I'd recommend Pypes or Flowmaster. Though with Flowmaster, they won't last forever. Expect to replace them. Magnaflows sound too high pitched to me, and the Magnapacks belong on v8's.

Yes I have a pair of stock GT mufflers with 94-97 tailpipes. I had the rear cats removed & it's not too much louder than it was stock. I'm leaning towards the pypes X-pipe with catback combo kit. +1 on the Bassani system, I'm just trying to keep my exhaust budget around 500 ish.

Re: Catback ?

I've heard that the Pypes x-pipe/catback system is a pretty good sounding/performing exhaust. A couple members had some install issues, but I think some of that was because of an improper install...

Re: Catback ?

Yah, I think the one guy had a friend install the system, and he didn't make sure the system was adjusted correctly before welding certain exhaust pieces together and to the car.

I've read other reviews and comments regarding the system, and most people didn't have major issues...maybe some slight adjusting or cutting, but nothing too serious.
