New CAI Help!

I have a larger MAF that a buddy gave me, its inlet is 3 1/2 inches I was wondering if I made a CAI with tubes from lowes or wherever would my cpu on the car add a little fuel to get the right mix or do I need to program the cpu? Is it worth doing the bigger MAF or should I keep the stock.

Re: New CAI

If you change the MAF the transfer function in the EEC would also have to be changed either through a chip or flasher.

Re: New CAI

That sort of depends, a C&L maf does not require that, because it uses the stock MAS, or electronics, just a larger maf body.

Re: New CAI

That is true.
I had one a long time ago, for a short time.

Ha, I've have seen it go many ways. Sometimes they work they way they are intended, they lean the car out a little bit and make more power (from leaning the car out, not because they flow more air). I have seen them make cars run pig rich, and make cars run so lean that they can barely support combustion.

I say stay away from them unless you are pegging the stock maf or it becomes a restriction. HCI 4.2 probably needs an 80mm maf. Supercharged car running suck-through needs an 80 or 90mm maf.
