Talking Anyone use air ride suspension???

Ok suspension is the next thing i'd like to do with my car. I want it to be lower and to handle much better. But in order to handle better i assume the springs need to be stiffer and less movement in the shocks/struts.
Right now i already feel EVERY bump in the road and it hurts after a while.
That's why i was leaning towards the air ride kits. (i was in a car eqiuipped with them and it was the smoothest ride ever!) The airbags replace the spring and shocks/struts completely which means less hasstle in my mind. Plus the catalog i have says that you don't need to buy c/c plates.
I don't know if this is true or not, but if it is it will save me $. It cost about 750-800$ for a kit which is the equivalent to buying 4 springs,struts/shocks c/c and so on.... I only know what i read about suspension and lot's of time it turns out to be Bull#### and companies just want my money.
I'm not experienced in this field yet and would like to know some truth about it, and not what jonny from down the block's uncle's girlfriend's daughter in law's husband says. :argue:

if anybody has an experienced opinion and can maybe list bennefits of differen't companies or give their input on the air ride suspension, i would be thankful.

oh yea, i have a 99 V6

Re: Anyone use air ride suspension???

Ok, you want to be able to handle...don't buy air ride. I bought the bullitt suspension kit from rdmotorsport.com, steeda monochromy midlength subframe connectors, and maximum motorsports 4 way adjustable c/c plates, all from rdmotorsport, a sponsor here on the site and got one hell of a deal. Also, install on that air ride is not just a simple replace this and replace that. You have to take your suspension apart, modify the existing mounts and make a few new ones, run air lines, find somewhere to mount the compressor, find space to put a air tank, etc etc etc. If you want to lower the car to the ground you have to do frame modifications. Air ride is cool and all...on the right vehicle. IMO buy new springs, shocks, struts, swaybars, subframe connectors, and c/c plates and you will have a much better handling car than air ride. Yes...it's a rough ride but I rather enjoy mine most of the time. If you have any questions, hit me up on aim or on here or you can ask 97stallion (owner of rdmotorsport).

Re: Anyone use air ride suspension???

yea i was thinking that air ride probably wouldn't be worth putting on my stang, but i love the idea of being at a stop light next to some preppy kid in is daddy's beamer, or some thug ridin' on his 22's and dropping my car down before leaving smoke in their face........So i guess i'll hold off on that day dream until i have a real job and a different car to put it on.

I figure if i'm going to lower it i mine as well take it down at least 2 inches to make it more noticeable. Most of the kits i see only drop like 1.75 or just 1 inch. I have a good 4 inches or more between my tire and the fender. i feel like i'm driving a sports car on a truck platform. so i'd like to get it as low as i can without having problems like tire wear or scraping the hell out of the bottom.
i guess i'll check out rdmotorsport and see what he offers. where is he located???
i don't like buying stuff off the internet without seeing and touching it first. i've already learned my lesson....

He is located in south carolina. And you can talk to several ppl on this forum about him, he's the best business I've dealt with. Always available, answers questions quickly, gave me his freaking home number to get ahold of him at. Here's a pic of my car after putting the bullitt kit on.

Re: Anyone use air ride suspension???

I'm actually looking for 18 inch fr500's for a decent price in black with a polished lip...wouldn't mind some 10.5's for the rear either...

Re: Anyone use air ride suspension???

lowflyn how much did the bullitt kit lower your car? and if i buy that kit plus the c/c plates can he hook me up with a deal? and also it says on his page i need a bump steer kit if i lower the car more then 1.5 inches. all that stuff adds up fast.

Re: Anyone use air ride suspension???

I cut the dead coils, 1/2 on the rear and 3/4 on the front to get my drop. I'm lowered probably close to 1.5. I see no need for me having an upgraded bump steer kit...but who knows. Just pm him or send him an email on the site and he'll get back with you.

Re: Anyone use air ride suspension???

^after i got my new rims, i noticed that the bumpsteer was a lot worse than with the stock tires, so i'm thinking that rims + new suspension will have even more bumpsteer. might be worth it to get a bumpsteer kit

and you don't want to lower your stang more than 2 inches. hell, i wouldn't even lower mine more than 1 inch.. any more than that and you run the risk of gutting your entire underbody on a rough road or speed bump. my headers already scrape speed bumps at stock ride height
