Question I'm embarassed to ask, but WTH

i know this sounds stupid but what's the difference between a 3.8 V6 and a 4.2 stroker??
I know that when you stroke it's the same as boring and creating a larger displacement (longer stroke length). when it says that it's a stroker engine does that just mean it's a V6 that's been bored out? is it easy as that or is there a more in depth explanation?

positive feedback welcomed.

whats the difference?

more displacement means more power.

stroke and bore are not the same. Stroke has to do with length of piston travel. Bore is diameter of the cylinder. Increasing the diameter of the cylinder (boring) of a 3.8 will only really get to a 3.9, if that. Stroking requires a new crankshaft that increases the throw of the piston.

Good explanations guys! boring will get some additional power, but not that much, there is a limit to how much you can bore an engine, or you could go into the water jacket or just make the cylinder walls too thin. Stroking is done by changing the crankshaft, also sometimes with the piston rods a little bit.
