Exclamation heat shield

i have noticed a metalic-like clicking noise coming from under my car when it idles at certain rpm's, ussually about 1,000-800, and when i accellerate it becomes a flutter (sounds like a leaf in my exhaust). my friend told me it my heat shiled. i lookd it up and it said that ussually rust out or bolt loosen aftr time. could these be romoved without harming the car?

Re: heat shield

Probably, but why not just try and tighten it up first? They have to have put it there for some reason or another. Another possibility is a bad muffler, my old S-10 OEM muffler started making that same noise one day so I had to replace it.
