Axle swap

Would the stock axles out of a 02 GT fit in a 97 with the 7.5? Are the GT axles that much stronger than the ones in the V6, would it be worth the time to swap them out?

Re: Axle swap

I believe the 94-98 mustangs were shorter in length than the 99-04's. In stock form, both Gt's and v6's have 28 spline axles, but I think the axle length would be an issue.

If you're really going to be putting down some serious power and want something stronger, I'd look into some forged axles...they're strong as hell. Though I've only seen them in 31 spline form for the v8 mustangs.

Re: Axle swap

Also if you are making serious power then you will really want to upgrade from the 7.5" to the 8.8" since the 7.5" is pretty weak and has been known to fail. Besides, this way if you go with the 8.8" you can upgrade the whole rear end and go with the 31 spline.

I also want to say that either the axles between V6 and GT (although both have the same number of splines) or SN95 and New Edge are different.

Re: Axle swap

As far as I know the 7.5in axles and the 8.8in axles are both 28 spline and identical. The year difference from 98 to 99 made the 99+ longer but otherwise the same. Personally as said above if you need to do work on the 7.5 upgrade to an 8.8 if at all possible.
