Re: The truth about manually shifting an auto

Because the auto in stock form sucks, if you build one up like corey did....you have a 5 speed beater.

Re: The truth about manually shifting an auto

Quite honestly in stock form a auto will take alot more abuse than a Manual. The Manual will need a new clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing way before you will ever need to do a damn bit of maintenance to a Automatic

No, no they are not auto. The top fuel dragsters, you know the 5000hp 3-second racing rails, are direct drive manual transmissions with one speed.

Automatic transmissions are catching up to manuals, as far as reliability, power loss, and sheer fun, but are still not quite there yet.

Sorry I am a die-hard manual fan. I learned to drive a manual before I drove automatic and have always liked it better. Driving an automatic to me just feels wrong, like seeing your parents having sex. Just wrong.

Re: The truth about manually shifting an auto

Those Auto sticks that Dodge is using and Ford is starting to implement in some cars looks pretty promising.

Re: The truth about manually shifting an auto

yeah if its in 2nd its staying in 2nd, i cant believe we had to debate this. and Those man-u-matic things are just down right annoying. if your going to drive a car manually, learn how to use the third pedal.

I thought those were explosive autos. Ya know....they pretty much throw themselves into the next gear when they pull the alternating sticks.

Re: The truth about manually shifting an auto

I was quite disappointed in the Mustang's automatic. The Jaguar dual gate auto is very satisfying when manually shifting it and considering Ford owns Jag, I was hoping for a more responsive automatic transmission.

Not exactly knowing what tranny is in the 05. Most Ford tranny's are rather poor performing from the factory. A tranny kit will improve it substantialy and when you get a chip it will improve it even more.

Re: The truth about manually shifting an auto

I have an XCal2 and am currently running the 91 octane tune. This did improve the transmission shifting as well as a number of other things. The trans works very well when just punching it and letting it go up through the gears, the disappointing part is when downshifting for some compression braking. The Jag downshifts immediately while the Ford sometimes downshifts and sometime does not. This is kind of disconcerting when you are coming into a corner and trying to downshift. DD, are you saying a trans kit will eliminate the downshift delay? If so, can you point me at a company who produces or sells the kit?

Thx in advance,
