Overheats when the A/C is on.

I am having a problem. I recently flushed my radiator because the car was getting too high on the "normal" gauge and when I opened the radiator cap the coolant was a chocolate brown. I flushed it and what came out looked just like chocolate..smelled awful too. Well now its going on a week since I did that and the car is gets too high in temperture. When I drive with the A/C on the car gets hot to the point of overheating and I have to turn the A/C off to bring down the temperture. Any ideas what could be wrong???

Take it to Ford or a repair shop. Overheats are very dangerous. Just a few miles on an overheated engine can do thousands of dollars in damage. Don't just drive it with the A/C off. What happens if it gets worse on the highway? Do the smart thing and get it serviced.

Um, I'm by no means an expert but if your antifreeze is brown, what color is your oil? It could be a failing headgasket.

Not trying to get personal, and V8s are welcome here, is your car a Cobra or is it a V6, by the front bumber and the badging it looks a lot like a Cobra, if so what model, are we talking 5.0 or 4.6 dohc here? It helps to know these things.

Actually its a 1996 3.8L V6. I just went to lunch and its fine now...but after having the A/C on for a long time or a really hot day...its starts acting up. I really want to get this fixed....I will be leaving the stang overnight at the dealership for service. This is something they better fix..or else the willcome out.

I hope you have some kind of a warranty with that dealer or you are going to likely get reamed, I am afraid you have a bad headgasket, or at least that is what it is sounding like.

I just dropped it off this morning. The warranty expires in a week. I told the mechanic and owner of the dealership what the car was doing and he said he'll take care of it. This guy has been good to me so far...I hope he comes through again!! Thanks for the advice.

Cool Robert, good luck Buddy, I like the look of your car! One thing though, we try to discourage guys from running like Cobra or GT emblems if the car isn't really a Cobra or GT, its called "posing", we can't tell you not to, its your car, but why advertize what you can't back up? Cobra bumpers, hoods, any of that is fine, but snakes, SVT emblems, that sort of stuff is frowned on I feel I am pushing the limit a little with my snake vanity tag on my GT, lol. My brother in law actually thought it was a Cobra when he saw that the first time, lol.
