| upcoming race: me vs. tiburon gt v6
ok here's the breakdown:
04 tiburon gt v6:
- cold air intake
- full catback exhaust
- colder spark plugs
- automatic
- ran a 15.4 in 60* weather
99 mustang v6:
- cold air intake
- true dual catback
- t-lok/3.45 gears
- 5spd
- tightened suspension
- ran a 16.3 in 90*-95* weather before gears/t-lok, suspension
so given these conditions, whats the chances i could beat him, and also what is my best bet? a roll of some kind or a dig?

prolly not. them tibbies are quick little cars.
he ran a 15.4 in alright weather, though prolly ****ty traction with his mentioned mods cause of the cold track conditions.
you ran a 16.3 in hot weather, where traction is better.
gears will help get you into the 15's, but its not gonna help much against a low 15 second car. besides, had he ran in warmer weather, he prolly would be faster due to having a better launch. and 30* weather difference doesnt account for much of a power loss/gain in a n/a application. heat makes more of a difference when youre using forced induction.

no, hell eat you up even more.
itll be closer from a dig cause fwd traction is gonna hurt him bad. take away your advantage of rwd and give him the advantage with fwd with less drivetrain loss, and its not going to be pretty.

plus thats with an auto so you cant say you can outdrive him.
the only way you can beat him in my opinion is that you shift perfectly and he has some traction problems while running the air conditioning lol

if money weren't a problem you could get a tune and high octane gas to compliment it. won't take seconds off but it'll help everything else you have.

if you are running on the street its a waste of your time to determine who is faster, you could beat him by a second and still loose on the street.... go to the track and find out for real.

here we go again
anyway, i think its gonna be close..........they arent that badass..........take out your backseat, run with little gas, launch well, and nail every shift and it will be a good race...........if you drive your car right, they have seen mid 15s in stock form with a 5-speed
good luck

the track sucks for fwd cars. rwd cars generally launch better at the track than street due to the surface. fwd cars launch crappy on track and street, so really taking a fwd to the track is good to see how you fast you are on the street, but taking a rwd is obviously gonna be faster at the track than the street, because of the ability to launch better.
track sucks. i really dont give a **** how fast my car is on the most perfect prepped surface, i want to know how it performs in the real world.
ted you run him yet?

Those cars are not nothing to fear. Test drove a 6 speed GT and it didnt impress me one bit. Hell my wifes alero would eat it for dinner.

ted you run him yet? | if you cant launch your FWD car at the track...its not the cars fault, its not because its FWD, its because the driver doesnt know how to launch
i could launch my dodge, i could launch my buddies daytona, i can launch my friend GTi, i launched my aunts saturn, and i launched my friens integra better than just about any of them could, id get a few chirps out of the tires, and be on my way because i knew what i was doing
launching isnt revving it to 4K and sidestepping the clutch, you gotta get off the clutch, get the release point, as the car gets moving and the rpms start to come up from the initial load, completely get off the clutch and go WOT
thats how ive launched every car ive driven, and i havnt had much problem getting off the line, other than my TC, which i have that one figured out now too

i would hover around 2500, and ease out of the clutch, but as soon as you even eased out they would just start spinning. WOT in first? i dont think so, or else they would just roast and i wouldnt go anywhere. though having the boost controller only let me do 10psi in 1st really helped, it was still ****ty. i never went wot and 20psi till 5k in 2nd. and even at the track, you could feel them breaking loose, on the street, they would just give up and let loose.
and i did think that maybe it was me, and i couldnt drive. then i get to know more fwd dsm guys, and its just a dsm thing. fwd+turbo+350hp/tq+street tires= not going anywhere fast. which is why 95% of built fwd dsm's are built for the sake of going from a roll.

fwd is just reverse logic for a drag car. It can be done but... RWD is more efficient at it
