yeah, those maximas are pretty quick, and expeditions are slow

04 maxima.........bone stock
5-speed auto w/ manual shifting thingy

vs

04 mustang.......x-cal2 (street setting), cai, 25% udp
4-speed auto

results:
0-100 him by 1 1/2 - 2 cars on me.....i took him outta the hole, his front tire was at my back tire. by the end of first he was back even with me and by the end of second my front tire was a little in front of his back tire...........when i shifted into third it looked liked i stopped racing him, he just kinda slowly pulled away and there was nothing i could do he put the 1 1/2 - 2 cars on me from ~80-100

then we kinda messed around on the way back home and ran from 80-115 with me about 1 car ahead of him and he couldnt pass me ......all he did was reel me in and stay even with me until he let up he's not one to mess with someone either so i'm wondering if i actually stuck with him up higher, maybe 80-100 was the only range he could put cars on me :chin:

okay, well we got to a red light and an expedition saw us playin, so he decides to play as well and runs me....it had a stock 5.4 V8

0-80 i won by a wide margin .........i really couldnt tell ya how many cars i won by. he stuck with me from 0-15, but after that, he was falling back, and even quicker once i hit 2nd

nah, theres more loss than that. if hes making 260 crank, hed be about 200 wheels. no car loses only 3-5% in the drivetrain, its at least 15%, even more so for autos.

yeah but its fwd though.......doesnt that make a difference

and if he was only puttin down 200, before my programmer, i put down 183, so just say i gain 10rwhp, then i am only ~7 off of him, and i am a few hundred lbs lighter than him.........

Re: yeah, those maximas are pretty quick, and expeditions are slow

yes but its a different kind of power he makes. his is more tuned for top end, whereas you just have power all over.

fwd drivetrain loss is just under rwd. basically its like this

FWD 5spd - 15% loss
RWD 5spd - 17-18% loss(take into effect the rotational mass of the driveshaft)
FWD Auto - 20% loss
AWD 5spd - 20% loss
RWD Auto - 20% loss
AWD Auto - 25% loss

Re: yeah, those maximas are pretty quick, and expeditions are slow

hmm, so we have the same drivetrain loss...........but i'm lighter and he has better gearing.....so i guess the fact that he has better gearing is what caused him to win b/c he didnt pull until i shifted into 3rd

Re: yeah, those maximas are pretty quick, and expeditions are slow

what gears do you have? im assuming stock 2.73's if youre auto.

most FWD cars have between 3.23-3.73 gearing. dodge neons run like 3.94 or something, and im pretty sure my gst's final was 3.73, if not a little higher.

and he has less than you in terms of driveline loss. FWD-15%, RWD AUTO-20%+. plus his engine is designed to run in the higher rpm's, is yours? i think those suckers redline at 6600, whats your redline? and do you even make enough power up there like he does to warrant going that high?

its where he makes the power as opposed to you on how he won.

stock gears on my car is 3.27s.......my 1-2 shift is at 6k and the 2-3 shift is at 5.5k..........and my dyno sheet does show me making good power to 5.5k rpms.......in 105* weather, i put down SAE 173.84rwhp/207.84rwtq.......of that, and looking at the sheet, at 5.5k rpms i am at ~170rwhp/~160rwtq.....the tq is on a steady decline after 4.75k rpms.......and keep in mind, this was 105* in the shop with 25% humidity

street races do not matter at all lol beating him by two cars could be him winning by a full second vs you at the track so you cant go by that.

what makes the track different?

there is a starting light, a finish line, and a timer

youre both racing on the same surface...just like on the street, you generally launch off of a light, same on the street, but the difference is where do you determine that the race is over?

im with you on this kyle . i know the track here ( englishtown ) prices keep going up, then they drop, up and drop, screw that..but i must admit i drive around the speed limit unless somebody wants to race and definitely dont race in traffic like the ricers do
