Redline advice for 05'

Ok, so the tachometer goes to 8,000 rmps, the redline starts at 6,000 rpms.

What is the target rpms you try to reach for your best drag times?

Do you consistantly take the rpms into the red?

Are there adjustments or mods that allow safe engine use in the higher rpms?

You will hit the rev limiter before hitting 8,000 rpms, I promise you. As long as the engine is pulling all the way to red line...I would run it to red line before shifting. Just make sure you don't peg it, b/c that will slow you down.

Re: Redline advice for 05'

the key to your best times at the track is shifting at the cars peak power, this has nothing to do with the redline on the tach usually. I am not sure on 05s but on my 01 it peaks at 5500 which is 250rpms into the redline... (dont ask me ford was to cheap to alter the tach from the pre 01's 5250 peak)

find out where your motor peaks power and shift right at that mark. The tach is probably 200 rpms~ off so try going above peak and below by like 250 rpms and see how it goes. You can hold second a bit longer to help you over the hump in 3rd if you want to see how that works.

Re: Redline advice for 05'

Actually its' better shifting INTO the cars' peak powerband.. On my 89 I'd have to shift well past peak power to land in the powerband..

Example : shift at 5400 RPMs for best times (13s)
If I'd shift at redline (6250 is redline.. but I tried running to 6k RPMs and shifting..) lost 4-5 tenths in the 1/4,
shifted at 5, car wouldn't even chirp into second or third, lost ~6 tenths

between 5400 and 5600 is where I'd get my best times...

Morale? RPMs too high.. already out of powerband when shifting
RPM's too low not in powerband yet in next gear and plays catchup..

Re: Redline advice for 05'

you have to play around with it, but your car is not like an old 5.0 that peaks at 4800 rpms (some are higher but for example)

find out where your peak power is at and shift there, a tad above and below and find the spot it likes most.

i usually shift right before red-line but i might try to shift right at or a few hundred RPMs past it.
