Re: pulley question

It depends on the year.

99+ are one piece stock and you need a puller to remove it.

Re: pulley question

i have a 99 and did what you're trying to do. i had a ***** of a time doing it and cracked the stock balancer. it's not worth replacing with a "lighter" balancer. it does nothing for the car. keep the stock one unless you have a problem with it or something.

Re: pulley question

the 99 up's are made together, the pulley and balancer (but the new unit you put on wont be)

a puller will still get it off just a pita.... it can be done though. Make SURE you use a little lube and tq that sucker to 125 ftlbs or you can get multiple miss fire codes and crap. check its tq a bit after to, like a week, then next time you change the oil.

Re: pulley question

What will pullies do for a '95 auto? Guess I would love the better milage with the gas price we got in Norway.

How much hp/tq will pullies give me? +/- 5 hp?

i honestly didn't notice anything. i think i was expecting too much from it, but i'm probably just used to driving my car. i'd like to drive a stock and then mine and see if there's a dif. if i could do it again i would have saved that money for a real mod.

and when you go to the dyno don't expect your #'s to be 100% accurate. you could have a 6-7hp/trq difference on the same dyno. look at other peoples dyno graphs. some of them have a 15hp difference from the first run and the second run. so you can't accurately say " my smaller pulley gave me 5hp".

Re: pulley question

So it's more a MPG thing, and with the cost of gas in Norway I'll earn back that mod with time.

Re: pulley question

can someone explain the myth of getting better gas mileage with a lighter pulley? I understand if it weighs less it'll take less energy to rotate it, but does that mean more rotation of the belt while you're at idle since it can spin faster? i'm a skeptic on this one.
