Need Some Help

I was driving the other day and my engine all of a sudden started shaking really bad and the flash engine light went on... took it to auto zone and my first cylinder was misfiring... great. So i tuned up my car and sure enough one of my plug wires was sitting on my headers and was burnt up... so that was the problem. But now, after i put new plugs and wires in it runs good at high rpms.... but if i am in a higher gear (3rd and up) and i hit my gas, it feels like it is still missing. The only thing i can think is wrong is that i had motorcraft platinum in my car before, and i replaced them with autolite platinum. Would that cause that much of a problem? i am pretty sure i got all of them in there right... i took my time and double checked myself, so i dont know. Any ideas?

You didn't mix any wires up on the reinstall did you?

And what octane were you running.

Re: Need Some Help

make sure the wires are correct and change the plugs, may need it anyway. See if that works. Run some fuel injection cleaner also.

Re: Need Some Help

i changed both the plugs and the wires.... and they are all on correct. I just put fuel injector cleaner in about 50 miles ago... and i disconnected the battery when i changed the plugs and wires. I am just running 87... but that is what i have always ran and not had any problems. I think if it was the case of mixing up wires, my car would have a lot more problems than it does... right now it only "misfires" when i try to accelerate fast in a higher gear. Other than that, it runs fine.

Re: Need Some Help

Autolite platinums are junk. I had a set lose the platinum caps off all the plugs, talk about misfire. And I did not have that many miles on them.

Re: Need Some Help

can you take spark plugs back once you have used them for a couple of days... and say "these suck, i want different ones." i guess i will check all of them for the third time and make sure none are loose. i just hope thats what it is, and not something worse.

Re: Need Some Help

alright... i figured out what was wrong. i went and bought motorcraft double platinum spark plugs from autozone, which are the kind i was going to buy the first time, but they were out - thats why i bought autolites. when i was getting the motorcraft (the second time) i told them what my problem was and they were like - "yeah, never put autolites in a ford."

Awesome. why didnt they tell me that the first time? oh well, i put the motorcraft plugs in and everything works fine now.

moral of the story... never buy autolites
