suggestions for the next mod

I love the idea of the ZEX 75 shot, but to do it safely (kit + purge + window switch) is about $1000 + install, not sure if I want to do it myself... anyway, I have about $500 in my "spend on the car" budget right now, my options are:

Dyno tune, local shop $400 flat rate to run it until it's tuned to the max
Underdrive pulley, about $250 plus installation (people claim 10 rwhp)
OR... save for a few months until the budget reaches that of the ZEX kit.

Also, the "custom" bamachips race tune for $50 bucks could come into the equation here is it's actually worth a damn...

Don't know what to do, any suggestions would be appreciated, keep in mind this is a daily driver and currently runs 14.0 in the 1/4

current mods:
CAI S&B
SCT with an out of date tune (6400 RPM rev limiter, 91 tune)
x pipe duals muffler delete
3.73 ford racing gears and trac-loc

Re: suggestions for the next mod

If it was mine I'd go with the tuner/dyno first.

Re: suggestions for the next mod

I agree with 67mustang97. The tuner/dyno is the best thing. Get your car straightened out tune-wise, plus you'll probably see the most gains. Obviously you would see the "most" with Nos, but honestly, I wouldn't put that on my car unless my engine was built to the high heavens and made to run it. I just don't think the stock internals should undergo that much stress, they're only going to hold up to a few runs.

Re: suggestions for the next mod

Thanks guys, gonna pass on the nitrous for now... I'm still thinking the UDP should come before the tune though... Or is that thing just not worth it?

Re: suggestions for the next mod

You know I've heard so many different things about UDP's. They get mixed reviews all the time. The physics/reasoning behind them makes sense, but I don't know if they really give you the claimed hp gains.

You can always re-tune later if you decide to get underdrive pulleys. I personally think you'll see more gains out or re-tuning your car right now.

Also, don't forget if you plan on supercharging at any point, UDP's are pointless. You don't want that smaller pulley when running a supercharger.

Re: suggestions for the next mod

As of yesterday it will be spent on a speeding ticket and traffic school. ****.

My last was Feb 14th (valentines day) and November 14th was the end 18 month probation period for my last ticket... I literally had the date marked on the calendar and was counting down the days... 7 days into freedom I get pulled over for 20 over...

I might fight it though

Re: suggestions for the next mod

Yeah... I can go to traffic school but the thing is that he never really had a chance to pace me and he didn't use his radar so I think he has no clue how fast I was going... I might have a chance if I can prove that

I figure nitrous is $699 plus window switch $150ish

cheapest 4.0 supercharger is the x charger (unintercooled) at $4300

plus the nitrous is an easier install, i don't think I'll go that route though, I'm just going to save up for a used Coyote 5.0 mustang in 2013, which means the 4.0 needs to last till then, which means no power adder for me.

Re: suggestions for the next mod

You could still do gears and suspension for relatively cheap.

It's a manual with ford racing trac-loc and 3.73 gears, it's honestly fast enough for me already so i figure i'll keep saving for a downpayment on a new 5.0 rather than keep modding this one, I drive about 30k miles a year and my last v8 got 12 miles to the gallon... made a judgement call on this purchase, lol. I figure the second stang will be a gas hungry high horsepower car and this will be the daily driver

It's nice to have a 6 for back up.

Haha yeah for sure, I can get from San Francisco to LA on one tank (barely)
Highway driving (even with the steep gears) gets me about 400 miles per tank... that's nice in a stang

Re: suggestions for the next mod

Go with the 93 race tune from Bama....its niiiiiice. Also, you will not need to retune for UDP's so you can add those later with no problemo.
