.:l DarkShadow's Official Turbo Update Thread l:.

Well this will be my officcial turbo thread. I'll update as I get things in and installed.

Already in my sweaty palms: 39 lb fuel injectors, MAF Extender, Vac/Boost and air/fuel gauge w/pillar, 300 lph fuel pump, custom 3.8 "TURBOCHARGED" emblems, Detroit Tru-Trac T-lock. On order: Actual turbo kit.

Schedule:

January: Hopefully begin the install, but may have to wait until February now, order Spearco intercooler, tune.

Will have to run a little higher than 10 psi to achieve my goal of 350rwhp!

Any questions, comments, suggestions are welcome. As I said before, I'll be using this thread for all updates on the project.

We shall see

Stock Engine is not meant for 350rwhp and the abuse that comes with it.

Without forging, the stock internals are good for about 11psi (safe min) 12 (IMO, unsafe max).

I'm not gonna be that hard on it. Take it to the track once maybe twice and the occasional hwy fun.

that's why I'm saving for the Cobra.... I'd blow the crap out of my engine with the power I'd want.

Yeah, I definately would like a Spearco, but I don't think I can afford it right now. Maybe as a future upgrade tho...

As far as what it'll handle: tell that to the about a dozen or so folks he's already made kits for. Trust me, this car is my daily driver and will be for a long time, I wouldn't be doing any of this if I wasn't positive it was safe by what they're telling me and by the success others have had.

The 4.4psi "street kit" is meant for those that don't want the additional cost and hassle of buying/installing the fuel upgrades for more psi (which I will be doing). It can also be turned up to 10psi for those that want to upgrade fuel components later on (when they realize 4psi isn't good enough)

Don't make me post links and bring the turbo heavyweights in here.

Well good luck man, I can't really put any input in cause I havent really researched boosting cars yet. All I can say is, trust the experts. If they say it'll be fine ith a good tune and the fuel upgrades than maybe it will.

Just count on things breaking alot.

psi is not what kills motors, its the tune. Sure if you max out the psi you will blow something up, but most of the time is a bad tune that does the deed.

He pitches, it's a 100 mph fast ball, he swings, it's good, HOMERUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly, thank you for being a voice in the wilderness. The engines that get blown are a result of tards that don't know how to tune a tb'd Mustang. Which is why I decided to let Justin handle that part since I'd be willing to bet no one around here knows how to tune one!!

Re: .:l DarkShadow's Official Turbo Update Thread l:.

still dont think the engine will last long with 10 psi and a lead foot. I have driven turbo cars and they MAKE you have a lead foot, you just dont ever want to leave that magical boost stage.
i say even with a good tune and proper fuel upgrades 10 is too much for "hypercrap" pistons and stock 3.8 rods.

Re: .:l DarkShadow's Official Turbo Update Thread l:.

To a certain point I'll agree with that, but only because I do realize that it will be hard to stay off the pedal. One of my friends has an SRT-4 and he dogs the living s*** out of it, takes it to the track every weekend for midnight madness, finds at least one person to race a day (or so he says). We keep telling him to lay off but he wont listen, he'll listen one day . They come forged but it still wont handle that kind of abuse for long.
I've told my other buds to donkeypunch me if I do stuff like that for longer than the first month! Very good incentive!

Re: .:l DarkShadow's Official Turbo Update Thread l:.

No matter what... modifications always bring issues... its just the way of things. If you dont want issues I guess you could have a ton of money to pay to have em fixed for you or not become issues in the first place, but most of us dont have that option.

Sure high PSI will hurt a motor no matter how good the tune is, finding a sweet spot for your needs would be the best thing. Determine what the car will be used for and what psi will work best for the car. The tune is the NUMBER ONE THING to make sure is done right.

Being reasonable in your boost level and takign all precautions (and taking care of the car) will help a ton in the overall reliability of the car.

In the end though.... "You have to pay to play" so you take on the chances of bad things happening when you mod.

Re: .:l DarkShadow's Official Turbo Update Thread l:.

hey darkshadow after i've been doing research and asked questions it seems that you can do 7 psi without an intercooler. If you're spending all that $$ on the race kit, it's just as important to have a quality intercooler so all that heat doesn't kill your pistons. i would stay at 7 until you can get a nice quality bar and plate intercooler and then turn it up. but that's just my opinion.

also for the nonbelievers Justin has been doing 17 psi on his stock motor for a while and there are a dozen others doing 10+ on their single and twin set ups. If the experienced guys say it can be done and are doing it, then i trust them.

Re: .:l DarkShadow's Official Turbo Update Thread l:.

whoooaa there is alot of crap in this post.

lets see. 7-11psi is fine on a stock engine with a good tune and proper fuel upgrades.

also there is a good tuner about 1 hr north of Huntsville,AL. he did one heck of a job on my car.

also what makes you think you are gonna hurt a Auto?? they are good transmissions. a few mods and they will last you along time.

also please tell me you are not getting a cheapo light show for a A/F guage.(worthless and ugly)

you can now buy a real wide band that will fit in a standard 2 1/16 gauage hole.

1. Very true.
2. Who is he?
3. I hope so.
4. Um...er...yes. Andy said really the only important one is the boost gauge. I was gonna get a fuel pressure but he said once it's tuned that's really irrelevant unless you just really like to monitor that sort of thing. And I think it's PRETTY!
