Question flowmaster exhaust

alright, im looking into getting a true dual exhaust from flowmaster. I was wondering if i got the dual exhaust for the 4.6 mustang if it would fit my mustang. My guess is no, because i have a v6 stang.but is there anyone around here with clips of the flwomaster on a 99+ mustang v6. Or could i buy two flowmaster mufflers and have someone bend the pipes for a custom exhaust for me? anyone know of a place that does it in lake county illinois?

Re: flowmaster exhaust

if shipping wasn't a ***** i'd sell you my H pipe with flowmaster 40 series.
you can have pipes custom bent but it gets expensive.
the GT exhaust should fit your car.

Re: flowmaster exhaust

If you know you are wanting to go with flowmasters, just go ahead and find a reputable exhaust shop, and have them bend and weld the pipes for you, it'll come out cheaper that way.

Ditto, local shop here came out to $320 for everything welding, bending etc, this was for my first stang that I had, it was a V6, I still cant believe how good it sounded.

Re: flowmaster exhaust

i will need to buy a dual exhaust adaptor or have a shop make one. I would recommend fabing it or buying the kit such that the dual exhaust can be bolted/unbolted and not simply welded on. When you weld it on you cannot remove it easily thus its a major pain to work on the car.

Re: flowmaster exhaust

you could also buy GT take offs for pretty cheap and have flowmaster mufflers of your choice welded in. Then just have the shop cutt your Y pipe to make it work

Sometimes that comes out more expensive.

Re: flowmaster exhaust

The old Taylor's Custom charged $250 for everything: custom bent pipes, bead welding (instead of spot), labor, 2 mufflers, and 2 3 1/4" chrome tips. It sounds very good too, for a 6. If you end up taking it to a shop for a custom job, ask 'em if they have some Jones mufflers on anything that you could listen to. I heard flowmasters on a lot of Mustangs, but he had these Jones mufflers on a v6 truck and it sounded good. So I had him put 'em on mine and I think it sounds better than flo's.

Re: flowmaster exhaust

No...do not go with chrome tips. Bad no no. Only go with stainless steel. My entire exhaust is stainless steel.

True, but I went this way because now I can remove my exhaust if I need to and it's completely a bolt-on now. Though you almost never remove the exhaust I just like to have options under my belt.

I agree 100% . . . I'm fighting rust all the time with my chrome tips.

If I had to do it over I'd get SS pipes AND chrome plated SS tips!

All best,
Joe

Re: flowmaster exhaust

Don't even get chrome plated ss tips...I just have polished ss tips off an 03 mach 1, and it works fine.

Depends on what you want to do with your car. If you seriously plan on adding a power adder or doing internal engine work go 2.5, if not 2.25 will be enough.

Re: flowmaster exhaust

the thing i've noticed about having it dumped before the rear axle is the vibration. At first i didn't mind it, but after having passengers complain about it and having the car shake at idle gets a little annoying. I've gotten used to it but after a year it kinda gets old.
but it does sound good and has a gurgle.

Re: flowmaster exhaust

well, for now I was going to be getting a cam and head work in the near future, but then after a long time saving, im gonna be swapping in a 4.2 stroker engine and slap a procharger turbo on there while im at it, and as well as a 8.8 t lok. but for now im probably just going to go with a 2.25, depends on how much it would cost, i have the mufflers how much would it cost to be bent and welded? a general price, im gonna look around this weekend and ill get some prices for you guys also.
