Does anybody else notice a difference in exhaust?

I've noticed that on some days, my exhaust can sound really loud and throaty, but on others it sounds really quiet. I've driven it at the same times of day, in the same weather, same humidity, same everything, even trip length, but it still sounds better on some days than others. What causes this? I thought maybe it was condensation in the mufflers, but it can sound different in the same weather.

Re: Does anybody else notice a difference in exhaust?

Humidity, Temp, Barometric pressure all have a factor in exhaust tone.

Re: Does anybody else notice a difference in exhaust?

There's alot of things that can cause this. Temperature of the pipes will make a difference some of the time as well. Like...first thing in the morning when you crank it up it sounds one way. But..if you park somewhere and the engine cools off, and you crank it up again, the exhaust will sound different b/c the exhaust is still slightly warm.

I think I was just making a more indepth response. But yeh, your exhaust will sound different just about every time you start your car.

Re: Does anybody else notice a difference in exhaust?

I know it's not identical but sometimes tho I'll start it at the same time of day, same weather conditions, same period of time between previous startups. I notice it some in other cars, but they seem to be a lot more consistent than mine...?

Remember if you have duals you have twice as much area to be affected by conditions than a single exhaust system. You might think it is the same conditions but you dont bother to look at humidity or Barometeric pressure do you!!!!

In working with Jet engines the sound can vary quite a bit with minute changes in outside conditions

Yeah, now that I think about it, all the "consistent" one's are single exhaust.

I check the barometer pressure every day before I goto work. Gotta know if the weather is gonna do whatever a change in barometer pressure causes or not

If all the conditions are the same & you check the barometric pressure & weather as Monkey has suggested TRY SOME Q-TIPS

Yeah, if the barometric pressure isn't within a certain range, I don't even drive my car, I just walk.

Just kidding.

I'll just start riding my bicycle if the "Barometricalization" levels are above "a certain point". If they're even higher than a "certain point" I'll just walk too.

Exactly what happened with my Sixer, its great though because this baby has got that good throaty gargle sound ALL the time. I dont think I can even tell a difference in exhaust with my car. Wether its cold or hot

Re: Does anybody else notice a difference in exhaust?

I remember when I had my spintech exhaust and when I had stupid catylitic converters, and I noticed that the tone woul change here and then...Some times when I punched the gas it would keep a goodtone all the way through, but then I might punch it again and it would loose the deeper tone and kinda like change octaves on me or something...
Now I have all Mac exhaust from tips to headers and no cats... lets just say I dont have that problem anymore.

Re: Does anybody else notice a difference in exhaust?

my exhaust sounds different when vtec kicks in

seriously though, it has to do with atmospheric conditions and the state the car is in(warmed up, etc). i find that my spintechs were really agressive sounding when i first got them in, even just light throttle would sound so insanely badass, and either i got used to it or they wore in cause it doesnt sound as agressive as it used to. prolly im just used to it. but it still sounds beautiful insane when i get on it, sounds just like eleanor its weird that i pick out a muffler not used often in stangs and it makes my car sound like the greatest movie car of all time.
