How to make my v6 fast, and what to expect

Obviously heavy modification to my v6 is a long term goal as it takes time and money.

What all does it take to make a v6 fast and respectable? (mine is a 2000) What other upgrades will be needed to keep up with it all? I dont ever plan on drag racing, and it is currently a daily driver. however, i suspect that as i get older it will not be my daily.

approximately how much will all this cost, and what should i expect for final wrhp and torque? (no nos)

"fast" is a relative term, what do you want to run in the quarter, or do you mean fast an autox track.

When you start pushing a v6 past the mid 14s in the quarter it starts to cost more and more and more. Seems N/A the limit is around 250-275rwhp with a stroker engine. With a power adder... some have had 700rwhp~ so its all in how much you spend on the engine

Re: How to make my v6 fast, and what to expect

hey thanks for the numbers SpectorV. what would be a good price guess for stroker vs power adder? and some how 700rwhp seems unobtainable to me. how is that possible?

700rwhp is very obtainable, has to do with your pocket book. The question is: How much power do you want.

HORSE POWER+TORQUE=MONEY.........ITS ALL ABOUT THEM DOLLARS LOL, but be smart about shop around for the best prices dont just hop on what you see first, there plenty of links in here to some good companys that make some quality v6s parts for a good price, start with the basic mods so when you get to the high dollar mods it can work incnjuction with the bolt ons to reach max power potential, spend your first few hunred on your intake and another on full exhuat and then see if this is what you really wanna do in life LOL, it will consume you your every thought and dollar till one day you have a boost gauge your looking at even then you will wanna see how many psi you can push.....its most def a drug bro be prepared LOL. but these guys will tell you its worth it man!

Re: How to make my v6 fast, and what to expect

build a strong engine, put a turbo on it = 700rwhp lol I mean... if 4 bangers can do it a v6 can as well... it just costs more to do it on average on the v6 vs v8 due to aftermarket simply doesnt have some parts the v6 needs etc etc.

A supercharger setup should run you around 4k then another 1-2k getting it all setup and running~ so I would say 6-7k for a supercharger on a stock motor expect 260-280rwhp (manual car take 5% less for auto~) for a turbo about the same price and more hp of course.

Re: How to make my v6 fast, and what to expect

awesome, great. one final question: what preparations should be made on the engine to support a turbocharger? How about for a supercharger?

Re: How to make my v6 fast, and what to expect

stock you can run 9-11psi~ or so with a good tune (not some can tune) and power on a supercharger will be around 250-280~ on a turbo 275-330~ (around 10-11psi) those numbers are at the rear wheels and assumes a manual transmission.

if you plan to push more than that you will have to build the engine to take it.

Re: How to make my v6 fast, and what to expect

if you are looking for motor mods i would go with SSMS (supersixmotorsport.com) for forged internals and other great stuff. Tom is awesome and has a wealth on knowledge and his prices arent too bad. Also a supercharger kit will be easier to pick up than a turbo. rarely are turbo kits for sale on the forums and no one really makes them anymore since Andy at tmaturbo.com stopped. But you can get them custom built and they are sick!! Also if you want to see over 350rwhp then you will need fuel system mods as well. Check out the forums there is a wealth on knowledge there. Also you can start buying parts to piece to gether your build. But as spector said first things first figure out how much power you want then go from there.
