Diagnostic code P0455

Check engine light is on. Had code read and P0455 came up "a large leak in the fuel vapor system" I need to know where the carbon canister, the fuel tank pressure sensor and the canister purge valve are located on a 2000 mustang convertable so that I can check them out.

Thanks to Jorge in directing me to the correct place to post this as I am a new subscriber.

Re: Diagnostic code PO455

try twisting the gas cap when you put it back on. the vapor leak is usually due to the gas cap not being fully tightened when you put it back on after fueling up. make sure that it clicks.

Re: Diagnostic code PO455

To all of you that replied to my thread on code PO455:

IT APPEARS THAT MOST OF YOU DID NOT REALLY READ IT. IT STATED THAT I HAD ALREADY CHECKED THE CODE AND IT IS PO455. I NEED THE PHYSICAL LOCATION OF THE PARTS LISTED. I HAVE CHANGED THE GAS CAP ALREADY.

DOES ANYONE ACTUALLY GO UNDER THEIR CARS TODAY AND DO ANY WORK ON THEM??

Yeah, that's a problem a lot of people on this site have. I had a code read and got the same responses from the same people.

Re: Diagnostic code PO455

Thanks for the leads. I found the carbon canister in the drivers side rear well but found nothing in the front passenger side. I'll keep looking.

You are right!! Just have been burned a lot on another site by people that just seem to want to be seen on the internet and not really help a guy out. I'll behave better in the future.

Re: Diagnostic code PO455

Canister purge valve in a 2000 is located in the right front inner fender well.
The tank pressure sensor is above the fuel tank.

Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to answer all the questions we don't have time read them right lol. At least you've got the right info now. Keep us updated with what you find.

I'll report back when I get some time after the holidays and the arrival of our first grandbaby! The light has been on for 6 months now with no ill effects so a few weeks longer won't hurt At least now I have a starting point.

I would dare to suggest that before you do any checking or troubleshooting, reset the ECM and check if it shows up again. Some of these evap codes show up once (due to causes you have read already) and may have been corrected (the new gas cap). I'm assuming a reset was not done after you changed the gas cap,.....if you did.......troubleshooting is required. GL

Thanks for the comeback. I have reset the ECM by disconnecting the battery overnight. I did this both after the code was read intially and after the gas cap change. After about one week the light returned. I am hoping that wat I did was good enough to reset the ECM if not what should I do?

Yeah, that would cover resetting the computer. It actually only takes like 5 minutes, but overnight doesn't hurt.
