Re: exhaust newbie

In all honesty, there's only so much you can do with the exhaust as far as power gains.
Getting rid of the y-pipe and replacing it with either divorced pipes or a mid pipe always improves sound, but not performance so much because of the v6 being even firing.

Long tube headers may give you a couple of hp's over stock headers, but I don't think they're cost efficient. Personally, I'd consider them if you needed to replace a stock cracked header or went forced induction.

The mandrel bent tubing used in the aftermarket systems provides better flow of the gases, making more power. Also, the less restrictive mufflers will improve flow as well.

In all reality, you can only expect 5-10 hp from a full exhaust redo - headers, piping, midpipe, mufflers. Don't believe the companies when they claim 15-25hp when you use their system, it's b.s. I personally wouldn't commit all my resources on it for power. You can obtain more power for less in other areas.

Re: exhaust newbie

The thing to remember is that bolt ons like exhaust, udp's, CAI...will become more effective when all combined in a good tune.

Re: exhaust newbie

Oh you will. I've heard too many good things from guys who have done it for it to be a lie.

Hell, the difference in the way your auto tranny will shift will be enough to cream your pants...it's like a completely different car.

Re: exhaust newbie

Underdrive Pullies really have mixed reviews. Some say they add 10hp, others say they aren't worth it at all. Some dyno runs have shown them to give you anywhere from 5 to 10hp, so they can't be too bad. The physics behind them makes sense, so one would think swapping the stock accessory pulley would make more power.

Look to pay around $225 for the accessory pulley on the 99-04's. Also I think there's a difference between the 99-00 and 01-04 pullies, so keep that in mind when ordering.
ASP makes a decent pulley for the 99-04 v6's. I know Mac and Steeda make pullies, but I'm not sure if they do for 99-04 v6's.

If you plan to supercharge later on, don't bother with the pulley. Also, if you're running a large aftermarket audio system, I'd keep the pulley stock.

Re: exhaust newbie

prob wont do a supercharger unless i win the lottery(which in that case id buy an 04 terminator). mainly because i just ordered the gears etc to fit the 7.5 rear and it would just be too much now to go back and install an 8.8 end + gears tlok to fit
