Re: HEADERS

shorty headers offer better flow and are direct bolt on. long tubes offer just a little more flow than shortys but require fabrication to exhaust. long tube headers give more of a throaty sound and can be more beneficial to engines with forced induction.

dont get shortys. spend the extra cash and get long tubes, they sound, perform, and look better.

Re: HEADERS

This might be a personal preference, but unless you're replacing stock headers that are damaged or cracked, or are going to do some sort of forced induction, I'd stick with the stockers. The shorties don't offer as much in performance gains as sledgehammer said.

If you do want to get them though, BBK is probably the best brand. I think the chrome ones can be had for around $270 on American Muscle.

Keep in mind you have a v8, lol. The long tubes are definitely the best way to go if you are going to do headers on a v6, but they won't improve performance/sound like on a v8. Plus you have an aftermarket mid pipe and mufflers, so that's contributes to the madness

Yah the way I worded that was misleading...longtubes do improve the tone on v6's a ton compared to regular shorties. I think longtubes, an h-pipe and Flowmaster 40's sound the best on a v6. I just don't see them improving the sound as much as they do on a v8.

When I get the cash together and can actually part with it, I'll probably do longtubes and an h-pipe.

that'd be sick dude. it'd be well worth it and you'd get some niceeee sound.

+1 X 1 carry the dam thing then add 1 ........this would be the ideal set up on ANY v6 mustng, anything else is just not gonna sound as good....but this is the perfect recipe for sound but NOT SPEED, unfortunalty with a v6 u cant have ur cake and eat it too, and exhaust set up for performance souds like crap to me,,, once again just my opinion!

I've been thinking about going with the BBK Shorty Headers also. The guys at BBK told me that the 3.8 V6 should see 10-15HP increase with their headers. I've read some of the comments on AM about the sound and power being awesome with the BBK's. I'll post back for sure when I put them on my sixxer.

Take a good look at your stock headers & then look at the shorties. Not much difference. Stage 3 motorsports has the Mac long tubes for $250 free shipping.

Re: HEADERS

I wanted to get mac long tubes for the longest time also. However after calling and talking with several performance shops I was talked out of it. The only benefit long tubes have on a v6 is if you supercharge it. Otherwise I was told there would be a decrease in hp until going into the upper 3k range where the increase would be very minimal...

I suppose if your car was modeed out there would be a bit of a difference.

Decrease, that is incorrect long tube headers will cause a shift in powerband not a decrease in power.

Re: HEADERS

actually i saw in a magazine that the Lt's did perform better than shorties by a couple of horses but still not as much as they advertise it at like 10-15 hp. they dyno'd it and had the graphs in the mag so i would say it would be true

That may be true but think about the future plans of the car and what your goals are.IMO shorties are a waste.
