Re: top end speed

A good friend of mine bought a wrecked 96gt for parts. He sold me the rear end, quad shocks, & swap bar, a brand new set of motive 3.73's installed them & helped me swap the rear ends out for believe it or not $200.00.

Re: top end speed

That does seem pretty high for a used 8.8" when you can buy them new for $749 already with 3.73 gears.

My local friend has a mustang salvage yard & sells 8.8's for $300.00. 94-04's your choice. Quad shocks & sway bar included.

More power for top end speed and/or 4.10's for acceleration. Did you get the Ford Racing Differential? Maybe try a different tuner like Diablo or SCT.

Re: top end speed

bigshow if you havent gone to your friends place yet, im lookin for a crank pulley if he has one. and if he has an extra rear end available, about how many does he have regularly? idk how long it would take me to save up the money to get the part, shipped and installed. and since i have an auto, i would need 4.10's instead of 3.73.

I read the post late so I didn't ask about the pulley. He has (3) 8.8's. He buys stangs almost every week so he will have one on hand regularly. Just let me know whem your ready & I'll hook you up with him.

Sorry about that, I was talking about the side scoops. I'll have to check back with him on the pullies. Prob around Wednesday before I can go back.

This is the first mustang that I've owned that I actually driven with the 7.5. I always had good luck with the 8.8 so never gave the 7.5 a chance to poop!! LOL, Lot of guys say that the ring gear is weak.

Re: top end speed

when i had mine crap out was i was doing my first drag race on the strip. and my stock differential broke half of its teeth cause of all the xtra slack that was in it. now that i have the ford racing lsd with tlok, theres no slack at all. another part is that alot of v6 owners put so much into their stang that the hp and tq is just to much for the small rear end. and that is usually something that is gonna break first.

Re: top end speed

the 7.5's weak link is the spider gears, the rest of it is just fine. They can be quite strong but the shock on a launch is what gets them. The axle are the same as the 8.8 and the ring/pinion are quite strong, its that damn open differential (or even locker)'s spider gears.. I broke one in half at the track myself

10/4! so I had my gears changed and installed by the folks at aamco. unimpressed. my gears whine, and when i changed the oil last year it was all metalic. the ring and pinion groved my locker. how its possible i dont know. but my locker is too big for my diff. is it posible it was for an 8.8?
