Will a GT 5-Speed Bolt up to the V6

Well my 5-speed is on it's last leg, and I was trying to figure out what modifications would be needed to install a 5-speed from a GT.

I have an 07 V6. The 5-speed never seemed right from the beginning, shifted hard at times other times easy, now it's starting to pop out of 5th.

I've replaced the rear end with an 8.8 out of a GT after breaking the 7.5 twice, so thought it might be a good idea to replace the trans with one out of a GT.

Has anyone done this? Do you know what needs to be changed besides the Trans? I'm pretty sure I need to use a GT shifter as it is different. Are the input shafts the same size or would the flywheel and/or clutch need to be changed? Would the drive shaft bolt up? Anything else that might need to be changed or you guys could think of checking.

I'm not worried about the speedo working correctly just the mechanical part of it. My speedo is currently off because I put in 3.73's.

you would need a bigger driveshaft to match up to the rear end and trans. you would need a bigger and better clutch and flywheel, it would be like adding weight to a tooth pick. one day it would just snap, and you would need to get another one after that.

I don't believe it will work. The 4.6 is a 90degree & the 4.0 is a 60degree engine. The 4.0 has a different bolt pattern than the 4.6. Unless the bell housings are interchangable which I doubt they are, it's not going to work. Kinda like the 4.6's & the 3.8 are both 90degrees but have different bolt patterns & different transmissions.

Looks like it won't work without a lot of fabrication. the 4.6 and 4.0 have different bolt patterns and the Manual trans don't have removable bell housings.

At this point we are just going to rebuild the T-5. I really don't like this trans but it seems our only option.

Does anyone know of another manual trans that will work in the 07 V6. Some changes are fine but I really don't want to do a lot of fabrication, since this is my daily driver.

I've read several post on other sites with people having the same problem with theses transmissions. You might want to look into the 5spd auto, it's not a power robber & performs well.

Re: Will a GT 5-Speed Bolt up to the V6

My local trans parts shop can get a rebuild kit for $205 so ordering that today. Will probably pull the trans out next weekend and rebuild it. Hopefully it will be better. I also have read a lot of others have had the same issues with the 07 trans. I prefer a manual so really don't want to change to an auto.

I can't blame you on your decision, I have a lot of money invested in T-5 rebuilds myself. Gotta love em.

I've heard Richmond makes racing transmissions for the 4.0, try their website to see if they do.

I think Ford underestimated the power of the 4.0
