ignition coil

will an ignition coil do better than the stock one? i know theres 2 different parts that begin with coil, but one is coil pack, and idk where that would go. and the ignition coil is for the spark plugs and wires. what is the purpose of a coil pack, and where does it go?

Those are two different parts. An ignition coil is one coil for all the spark plugs (usually in a carb engine) a coil pack has many smaller coils in a pack (one for each plug, usually in a FI engine). Just go with the Accel Coil Pack, it works great for me.

Re: ignition coil

a coil pack is an ignition coil when i worked at advance and someone come in and said i need a coil pack i had to look up ignition coil. if u go to advanceautoparts.com and type in coil pack it will say sorry no results if u go to anwers.com and type in coil pack it will redirect u to ignition coil and if u scroll down and read what it says unless i misread its commonly called coil pack on modern vehicles because theres more than 1. and all this talk about coil packs got me thinking about my no spark problem i do believe u just helped me solve my problem thanks sonic

Re: ignition coil

well if you go to american muscle and type in coil pack, it brings up 2 different parts. the 1st few parts are of a block looking thing, with the tips of where the wires plug into. and if you go down further, theres just wires with a small cylinder looking thing at the end, what is that, cause they call that a coil pack as well. if anyone can tell me what the difference in them let me know.

Re: ignition coil

i have never researched these i thought u could only use these on ohc engines i dont know but they are coil on plug each plug gets its own coil they eliminate wires according to accel they give you hotter spark so you burn off more fuel in the cylinders inreasing power and fuel economy i found this site they explain them
Coil-On-Plug Ignition

Re: ignition coil

The coil-on-plug is a different part but they are all ignition coils, they are just made differently. The standard ignition coil is just a bigger coil for all the plugs, the coil pack is a pack of coils and has one coil for each plug (like the one for the 99-04 3.8 V6). The coil-on-plug is exactly what the name says it's a coil on the plug wire, I think that's the kind that is used on 99-04 GT's.
