Question BBK 65mm Throttle Body

I've been thinking about adding the BBK 65mm Throttle Body to my 2003 V6 when I get a CAI. The Guys at BBK are saying it will add 8-12HP, does anyone have any opinions on this throttle body?

Re: BBK 65mm Throttle Body

wait till you get more mods done, spend your money on gears and a tlok first, trust me, youll see the most improvement through these. the cai and tb will be more for looks for now. yes the cai will increase your gas mileage by about 2-3 per gallon. i wish i wouldve gotten the gears when i got my tlok put in, but didnt really have the money and i had just enough to pay for labor to get that put in.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'm gonna wait on the TB for now and just go with the K&N CAI and BBK Shorty Headers. I definitely want to do the T-Lok and 4.10s, maybe this spring after I get the rims and body work done.

Hey soncibluev6. I would recommend the CAI from AM over a K&N drop in. Its affordable and functions just as well as the big name brands like BBK. I have this and i love it. looks, sounds, and feels great.

I've seen that one, it's a good deal. But I used to work for an aftermarket parts distributor and I can get K&N stuff really cheap.

About $185 (Coil and Wires AM.com), but I got the plugs for $35 bucks at Checker.

Re: BBK 65mm Throttle Body

ive seen those at am, whats the difference in the 2, if you look they have a coil pack that the cp plug is on top, the other has it out the side? whats the difference? and you noticed some increase in it when you put them on? ive been told that the only reason i should replace them is for maintenance, and i have 90000m on mine, and the plugs have never been changed, neither have the wires, so i think its time to change them out.

I have the vertical one, I looked at the pic of your engine and you have the same one as me. I guess it's because of the mounting orientation, if it sits flat or if its on the side of the intake manifold like mine. I just replaced mine at 85,000 and I noticed a huge difference, the throttle response and power are much better now, and since I put on the Flowmaster Super 44, my V6 runs and sounds sweet!
I also replaced the fuel filter, I think that helped give the engine the gas it needs since I've been stomping on it alot more lately.

Re: BBK 65mm Throttle Body

I think it runs better than new, my coil and wires were stock when I changed them. I went with Bosch Platinum +4 because with the extra juice from the coil and wires you may have to adjust your plugs gap and the +4's don't need to be gapped. And you should probably change your plugs every 20,000 miles or so.

Yah, CAI's are a lot like Tylenol...the generic brand and and the Tylenol brand are the same thing...they have the same active ingredients, you're basically paying for the name on the box...

But if you get a good deal on K&N's then more power to ya

Its been proven that not all CAI's are the same so it not just the name on the box.

Yah maybe for your car after a tune, (which do show significant gains on both 4.0's and 4.6 3v's) but not on a stock 3.8...manufacturers claiming that their BBK CAI will instantly add 10-15 hp and the American Muscle CAI will won't, yet they use the same piping, filter and design is just silly.

The average gain being thrown around from a CAI for our cars is 3-5 hp. That includes more generic CAI's like the one from AM, and $200 ones like BBK.

Re: BBK 65mm Throttle Body

a bigger throttle body on a near stock 3.8-3.9L v6 is pretty much worthless. They really dont start being needed until you are around 300hp. The headers are a bit better giving you about 5rwhp maybe~ depending on other supporting mods~ (short headers)
