Smelly Exhaust

Hello all,

My V6 mustang has 111,xxx miles and lately when I park the car after driving it anywhere, it has this burnt smell coming from under the car. I know its probably something from the exhaust but all I have is the stock Y pipe and flowmaster that is dumped at the rear axle. The setup has never caused a smell before, Anybody have ideas what the problem is?

Re: Smelly Exhaust

burnt as in oil or does it smell like rotten eggs? rotten eggs means catalitic converters....if its burnt oil then u have a oil leak that is blowing back on something extrememly hot and burning it, the oil leak could be from head gasket, valve cover, or oil pan! either way it can be fixed bud! anyway so is it eggs or oil? front or back of car? keep me posted

Re: Smelly Exhaust

Its probably oil then. The smell is from the front but i think its oil because I have had an oil pan leak for the past year or so. Its not bad at all but I guess its starting to build up, better take it the car wash and try to get that stuff off. Any idea on what it would cost to fix an oil pan leak?

Re: Smelly Exhaust

Shouldn't be too expensive. If you can get the pan out yourself (check the clearance around the transmission crossmember), then all it will cost you is the price of a new pan gasket and oil to refill it.

Re: Smelly Exhaust

its not to bad on your car, the worse case is you have to remove the K member which will require a re alignment when you bolt it back up. You may not have to though. Get a shop to quote you and ask them the procedure they have to do.
