Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

Well I was wonderin if anybody could help me I have a 95 mustang v6 3.8L. About two weeks ago I was driving on the highway and was accelerating when I reached about 60mph the car hesitated during acceleration for less than a second. i thought it was my fuel filter and so I changed it, but the problem presisted. So I changed my spark plugs and the problem is still there except it is more mellow and happens less frequently. So I bought fuel injector cleaner and it was to no avail. The only mods that I have are a Custom exhuast and a cold air intake. From what I can conclude could it be the ignition coils or the fuel pump? Thanks

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

To be honest, it might be your wires. How recently have those been changed?

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

I took the car out for a drive this morning and it feels weak like it lost power. When I hit the gas it feels like it is not accelerating as fast as before and the stumbling still occurs randomly. Now a friend told me to check my EGR valve, because it could be damaged. do you think this could be the problem?

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

when my car had this problem... the fuel pump was on its way out... ended up going out, got a new fuel pump in, and a noticable difference was detectable. Hopefully that isn't the problem... but I dunno.

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

lowflyn I returned the spark plug cables and put a different brand in and noticed a bit of a difference in response time but it still stumbles ocasionnally so it might be the fuel pump well I am going to replace it and see if it is the problem I will inform you guys if it solves the problem. thanks

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

So alright the fuel pump was going to get replaced but after further inspection and using a scanner the problem was pin pointed to being bad fuel injectors. Is there any place you guys recommend to get this part. thnx

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

For some reason my car is running fine now. I was going to replace the fuel pump and injectors, but all of the sudden it started running fine. So I guess I will be left wondering and could it have been the ECU reprogramming itself? The only thing that does concern me is that the check engine is still on. i checked the codes and they were P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1) and P0174 System too Lean (Bank 2). If any of you have any input on these codes and what the problem could be i would greatly appreciate it. Also I would like to know what the problem is so I can fix it before it happens again.
Another thing to mention is that my dad told me that he took the stang to a ford dealership and they said some sensor were bad. the only thing is that he doesn't remember which sensors are the bad ones. LOL. alright thanks for all help.

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

If indeed the engine is running lean thats NOT a good thing you need to get whatever sensor replaced could be the 02 sensors if those are the original
ones ,could also be the CPS sensor has gone bad .

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

Yes, I was thinking o2 sensors. The difference you noticed in the different wires may have just been from better quality wires, so I don't think that really affected your problem. Also, how long did you drive with the injector cleaner? You may not have driven it long enough to get them cleaned out, and that's why it's running better now...

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

Another place you may want to look is the fuel filter if it is starting to get clogged it COULD make it stumble but I doubt it would make it run lean .

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

I clean my fuel injectors every 3000 miles and the last time I cleaned them was 700 miles ago. I changed the fuel filter about 2 months ago. The weird thing is that I am getting awesome gas mileage on the highway I get like 36-38 mpg, but city mileage is average I get like 16-19 mpg. Tomorrow I am going to a mechanic shop to get my o2 sensors checked. If they're the problem I am going to get them replaced, but I was wondering were woud I be able to get a good price on them. Also how many o2 sensors are there in a mustang, because I am assuming there are three. And how hard is it to change the one in the engine bay? Thanks for help

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

There are 4 but you can have the back two turned off yoo really on;r need the front ones but you would have to flash the EEC to get that done .

Re: Help Stang Stumbles during acceleration

i just got the stang checked and the mechanic said that my o2 sensors are fine. He said that my car is working perfectly fine. I am going to get a second opinion. Hopefully the problem can get figured out.

If you end up needing some injectors I have a set of 97 stockers.
