Simple Tire Questions

Hello all!

My Mustang is a 2004 V6 convertible and it is in need of new tires. It has the stock wheels the car came with. American Muscle recommends this size :245/50/16 for 99-04 cars as "the best" size on 16x8 wheels.

My questions are: Are the stock wheels on an 04 Mustang 16x8 - If not then what is the exact size? And Will 245/50/16 tires fit the stock wheels?

Thanks!

Re: Simple Tire Questions

IIRC, the stock rim is 16x7.5"...my stock goodyear eagles are 225/55/16. They fit great on the stock rim, so I'd go with that. You could check places like Tirerack in addition to American Muscle to look at tires.

Re: Simple Tire Questions

I believe those 16" tires on American Muscle are for the aftermarket 16" rims on the site. The 16" rims are 16x8, as where the stock 16" rims on our cars are 16x7.5".

Re: Simple Tire Questions

Your stock tire size (also available on the tires on your car probably) are 225-55-16

I recommend discounttiredirect.com or tirerack.com

Re: Simple Tire Questions

I would also go with the 225-55-16. They look the best on those wheels.

Re: Simple Tire Questions

Thanks for the replies. That is a small difference for aftermarket, only .5 inch to make it 16x8, hmm. I will go with the 225-55-16 as recommended by you men. Thanks again!

Re: Simple Tire Questions

every 25.4mm is an inch and remember its half per side (inside/outside) so its not a big difference for the most part.

Discounttiredirect has free shipping and they will haggle if you ask for a lower price.

Re: Simple Tire Questions

I have run 245/50-16 with no problem at all with the stock rims on a 2004 V6. First was Sumitomo then Kumho both 245 wide and no problems, better traction in my opinion. Also looks meaner cause its got a nice sidewall so no curb rash
