Power Question

Ok, so after reading the symptoms of an exhaust leak I have pretty well determined that I have an exhaust leak. The car has a "putt-putt" noise to it and it drives me insane. Will an exhaust leak cause a loss in power? I haven't noticed a dramatic difference, but if it causes power loss than Im going to be pretty adamant about fixing that little problem. BTW, I have a 00 V6 with true dual...40s series on it. And I, personally, like the sound of my exhaust...minus the leak....Thanks!

Re: Power Question

a leak can cause power loss, depending on how bad it is it may not be super noticable~ if its bad though you will hear it with out issue. It shouldnt be a problem to fix it once the source is found. Pop the hood and try to track it down.

Re: Power Question

Thanks for the help. BTW, the new car is nice. I always loved the black stang, and if you upgrade and treat the new one like you did your old one I can't wait to see the numbers it will produce.

Re: Power Question

Check the flange on your passenger exhaust manifold, v6's are bad about separating right there.

Re: Power Question

Yeah, I second what LOWFLYN says about the passenger side exhaust flange. Mine did (2000 V6) at about 75,000 miles, and because I was super busy at that exact time with my race car, I took it to a dealer. Like $500 later, they replaced the right bank exhaust header, and now all is well. BTW: you DO want to get after that, if that is in fact the problem, because you now have carbon mono underhood, and able to get sucked right into the pass compartment!

Re: Power Question

Haha...thedad, nice name. But yeh, I ended up blowing mine off and had to replace it. Ford likes to ask 180 a piece for them and just happened to have 3 in stock in the storage room, go figure.
