Port and Polishing intakes?

Is it worth it for a V6? What type of gains will i expect from an engine with minimal mods like mine? Should I do it myself for have it professionally done? If so, what is a reasonable price for it??

Worth it is one of those things where you have to ask yourself. You have people who will tell you doing anything but putting gas and oil in our v6s is "worthless".

If you do just the upper and lower intake you might gain 10-20rwhp but you will have a wider powerband. You may also want to look at www.vap.com for the windstar upper intake.

As far as DIY: head porting diy by standard abrasives check that out, I screwed up 2-3 sets of cylinder heads and an intake or two before I finally got to the point where I would consider myself somewhat good. But porting can run you anywhere from 400$ anywhere up to 5000$ (this would be some serious custom work/cnc)

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

It's something to do when you get bored...but as stated above have a spare set sitting around so you can still drive the car after you mess a set up lol.

The gains are minimal except in situations where they are the restriction (stroker/cam/fi motor).

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

I had my 01 v6's upper/lower ported from RGR (mistake) took a year to get my parts... then I sold them and gave up lol

After all the research if you have them ported good expect 15hp under peak on the curve average from about 3500+ and peak 10-15 more maybe~ good supporting mods will help, I would say at least 10rwhp/tq

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

Here is what i might do:

1) Buy the lower intake from SuperSixMotorsports.com for $450 as well as the Windstar Kit for $395

OR

2) I can buy the lower intake from SuperSixMotorsports.com, but only the Windstar upper for $85

Which is a better decision? I heard the lower intake is more restrictive so i will consider that a priority first. Any suggestions???

just buying the upper windstar is pointless.. many modded parts that the kit has and you 100% need for it to work in your stang.

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

Personally I don't think the full Windstar kit worth the money. $400 for 7hp and 15 tq doesn't seem cost effective. Plus you need a $45 spacer for the kit to avoid hood clearance issues. You could put the money towards a tuner if you don't have one, or towards supersix parts etc.

You are correct, the spacer is included in the kit.

I think it looks better than the stock intake too, but for the price, I can live with the stock one, lol. You could always find the intake from a junk yard windstar and piece together a kit...but it might cost just as much or be too much of a hassle than just buying the kit.

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

Yah that's what I was looking at...it seems you have to go all the way with the full system or not at all...

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

i think the cheapest way to get the full kit is, just junk the intake itself, buy the rest of the kit, and send in your stock TB for $40bucks off. +shipping

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

okay, how about another idea...

Supersixmotorsports upper and lower intake manifolds w/ the BBK throttle body.

http://www.supersixmotorsports.com/p...eManifolds.pdf

would a project like that be worth it?

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

depends on how you define "worth" the end result wont be a ton of power. In my opinion... if you are already taking the upper/lower off why not go ahead and replace the heads/cam while you are at it and end up with 230rwhp instead of 10-15rwhp more than you currently have.

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

Ya man cam is everything that will give you way more hp and if you go ahead and cut for bigger valves you'll make even more while you already have them off.

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

Yah a better cam in unison with better heads and upper/lower intake will net you the most gains rather than just one piece. A cam alone is only going to get you 10rwhp.

Re: Port and Polishing intakes?

here's the best advice i could give.

(1) come up with a plan for your stang. and decide how far u wanna go with this car.

(2) decide how much horse u wanna make which in most cases is the most possible. lol

(3) order your ported heads, intake, and full bolt-on's. then decided if you are goin to turbo, supercharge, or use nitrous.

(4) after u decide then order the cam that will best suit your application. cause ordering the wrong cam can be very costly as far as horsepower.
