shorty Headers

As some of you may have read, i need headers. long tubes would be nice but i barely have the $$$ to replace the the headers. long tubes and changing from the stock Ypipe to a shorty x/h pipe is out of the question.

that being said, what is y'alls opinion on these two different options?
BBK Shorty Headers (99-04 V6) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!
and
56950 MAC Ceramic Shorty Headers 1999-2000 V6 Mustang

the bbk ones from AM are $20 cheaper, but are not ceramic
which is better? Ceramic Mac or BBK?

When it comes to shorties on a v6 its gonna be all for looks the stock manifolds flow just as good. so pick out the ones that are shinier lol

is this really true? they certainly look like they flow better than the stock ones, and i've read tons of praise from people saying how much better they are, even on a 6

Re: shorty Headers

They improve flow a little as a result of smooth pipe vs rough casting of stock, but gains are minimal at best. They will, however, resist cracking better than the stock cast manifolds.

Re: shorty Headers

But he NEEDS a replacement now as his stockers have issues if I remember right. Shorties are the cheapest route without just swapping in a stock manifold and hoping it too doesn't crack.

Re: shorty Headers

Just go with the BBK's. They'll flow better than stock and look a ton better. Ceramic is there to absorb more heat than the stock casting, but I don't think there's a huge difference between the ceramic and chrome...I know of more people that have the chrome BBK's than the Ceramic Macs.

Re: shorty Headers

well since everyone seems to be saying go with bbk and the ceramic doesnt really matter, i guess i should still get the bbk ones over the mac NON-ceramic which are about $50 cheaper than the bbk ones.

and yes, i do need new ones. passenger side header cracked

You can go with the MAC non ceramics if you want if price is a main concern, but I haven't heard anything about them...

Buy a good set of gaskets & go with the Mac ceramic. The chrome will turn colors with time & you will have more underhood heat with the BBk's.

Re: shorty Headers

Usually the headers come with gaskets but check with whoever you're ordering from to be sure.

Re: shorty Headers

hedman headers makes a set of shorties for $220 if price is a concern. they aren't shiny or anything. but they definitely get the job done. go to summitracing.com to find those. i've personally bought 3 sets for different cars and i think they are a bang for the buck company good products fo sho!

Re: shorty Headers

If you can get your hands on a set of 1998 stock manifolds just replace them with those. As for shorties they will do two things: 1.) won't crack like the stock ones and 2.) if you get chrome/ceramic they will look better The won't make any significant power difference until you get up into the 260+ rwhp range.
