Re: Tunner for a 3.9L

As said above, it'll work just fine. Most tuners have a model range from 96-04.

I shall be using my Tax return for this very project. Going through Justin at VMP for an SCT to be specific.

Re: Tunner for a 3.9L

I think we need to put up a sticky somewhere about what a 3.8 vs a 3.9 is.

They are the same engine. The 3.9 is only different because they used up left over windstar internals which cause that slight change in displacement.

Any SCT Xcal 2, 3, SF, etc will work.

Re: Tunner for a 3.9L

Yea I can do either or....I'd have enough to buy the t-lock and gears, but not to install them.

Re: Tunner for a 3.9L

go with a good tuner like VMP dont just buy a tuner and load the POS tune they give you (aka a can tune)

Re: Tunner for a 3.9L

Yes sir ricky bobby....yea i wouldn't go with a POS tune...They do great work as they did for my uncle...made a difference for him. Most likely I'll just want my daily driving tune, but occasionally when i feel like putting 93 octane in I'll click an button and be good to go.

Re: Tunner for a 3.9L

Yeah there should be write up about 3.8L vs 3.9L. I keep running into ;"It wont work /fit because you have a 3.9L" I hate always asking if there will be a problem. So far I havent run into any fitment/ performance issues. I just run into sales people who tell me either wise and wont sell me the part.

Re: Tunner for a 3.9L

3.8 = 232ci
3.9 = 237ci

I think the quick formula for finding displacement is:

Bore x Bore x Stroke x No. of Cylinders x .7854 = CID

I was at SummingRacing.com ; and they say

3.8L = 232CID
3.9L = 238CID

So you was close in your calculations.
Anyways some dose should do a write.
