Seafoam 96 mustang

I'm thinking about trying the seafoam out. I have never used this stuff myself, and I'm pretty sure it has never been used in this car before. It is a 96 mustang v6 with 225,000 miles. I drive it 70 miles every day, has been very reliable, but it just feels like I'm carrying a boat ancor behind when going up hill and taking off and has a rough idle. I was getting 23mpg about 3 months ago, and now I'm getting 18-19mpg trying to keep RPM's below 2000 rpm. Basically, I want too know if 225,000 miles is to high and risky to use seafoam.

Re: Seafoam 96 mustang

With that many miles, expect a really good amount of carbon buildup and oil and deposits. My only concern with that many miles would be if a chunk of crud flaked off and plugged an injector or something odd like that.

It will clean the engine out pretty good, so expect a LOT of smoke.

Yes, I was also concerned about a chunk...I figured it would smoke bad. Would this plug up the converters?

Re: Seafoam 96 mustang

I've read, to put 1/3 bottle in the tank, 1/3 in the oil, and suck 1/3 through the brake booster vacuum. I don't want to put this stuff in the oil, so how much should i use in the tank? Should I do this with a full tank, half tank...

I have a 87 f150 that has been running bad for Bout a year. Took it to ford and they could not get it to run better. I put a can in a full tank of gas and that did the trick. Back to running right again.

Re: Seafoam 96 mustang

Seafoam is one of the best things you can do for your car. The instructions for it are right in the bottle. I hear a lot of 1/3 in the tank, 1/3 through a vacuum line... I'm sure there are online "how to's" in case you get confused.

Usually they say to wait for ~65,000 miles; not that it hurts the car before that mileage, but it won't do much since the internals and system is 'pretty clean' up until ~70k miles.

Re: Seafoam 96 mustang

The actual way you want to do it would be to put a full can in your gas tank after a fill up, and half a can directly into your oil (via top of the valve cover). It will cause your exhaust to smoke a little, but shouldn't be anything too major. Although, I wouldn't recommend running seafoam in your engine for no more than 300 miles before an oil change.

Re: Seafoam 96 mustang

Both mustang engines i tore down didn't look to bad in the bottom end it was just the pistons had alot of carbon buildup on em which is normal. Both are over 100,000 miles
