Talking Project BLWNAWA Commences

Well, I just got an email from Andy saying that he'll be done with my kit by the end of the week!!!1111!11!oneone! I'm calling it project BLWNAWA because that's what I want to get for my custom tag when it's all done.
:cloud: :cloud: :cloud: :cloud: :cloud: :cloud: :cloud: :cloud: :cloud:
:elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant:
:pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle:

As I'm sure ya'll can tell, I can't wait.

This is what's been going on:

I already have:
Injectors
Fuel pump
MAF Xtender
Detroit T-Lock
Gauges
Boost controller
Spark plugs
Tranny cooler
EGR delete plate
Gaskets
Turbo piping, including headers, exhaust dump piping, intercooler piping, and intake piping.
Custom emblems

This is what I have installed already:
Detroit T-Lock
Fuel pump
Gauges (not hooked up, just in their pods.)

I'm essentially waiting on the rest of the kit to install everything else. I'll also be getting a Precision Intercooler from Andy so that wil fix the IC problem.
Once everything gets here, I'm estimating about a week tops to get it all put in and hed up to Delk for the custom tune.

I've been thinking some time in the summer, I may get a stage 3 kit from Super 6 and forged internals and if I do all that, I'll probably start looking for an 8.8 also. But at the very least, I'm getting the forged rotating assembly.

WOOT!

Re: Project BLWNAWY Commences

I was going to do this later, but I decided to go ahead and get a B&M transmission cooler since I'll be down there anyway with the intercooler, so that's been added to the list. It's got an electric fan and thermostat.
Also got a fancy EGR delete plate, it's shiny and was only $5.

Re: Project BLWNAWY Commences

I also have a question:
In an effort to controll the heat in the engine compartment, I've been thinking about removing the heat shield on the underside of the hood...but I've heard that this can cause discoloration of the paint on the outside of the hood...is this true? I don't really care about the underside, I just don't want it messing up the outside...

Re: Project BLWNAWY Commences

ive not had the underside hood blanket on my old black car, and I do not have it on my red one. Its not hurt anything, I wouldnt worry about it.

you best add a transmission to your mod list as well.

I thought that thing was meant to soak up the heat and transfer it to the hood, and in turn the hood cools off from the ambient air.
Keeping temps down under the hood is an interesting battle. At some point some part of the engine bay will have to soak up heat and transfer it out. everything you do has a domino affect on the rest of the car.

bingo^^ thats what it does as well as being your AM reciver You can wrap the turbo exhaust lines with some stuff that will keep it cool at the price of it looking odd.

Re: Project BLWNAWY Commences

another tip do NOT rush the build, take more time than needed to dot every I and cross every T, much better than rushing though it and then it blowing up 2 days later~ so take your time and enjoy it, also take tons of images adn what nots, we could make a VERY nice how to if you would be willing to take the time on all of the projects, and plus it will help you think about what you are doing as you are doing it.

Take more images than needed and we can then write it up.

Huh?

Don't worry, I'll be taking plenty of time and pictures. I've got so much to do, I need to make a chronological list of what all I need to do. Most of it won't take long to do, it's just a lot of stuff.

an 03 cobra or cervini extractor hood would solve that issue rather nicely also. would look sweet on your car too

Re: Project BLWNAWY Commences

^ those hoods sound like a good idea, but I don't have the money to spring for a new hood on top of everything else right now.

*Update*

Andy had to order some stuff for the kit, so it's been delayed a bit. I think it won't be done by March 15, but it should still be done before the end of the month. You guys might get a before look at it at Mod Day instead of an after look (I might even be working on it instead of coming), I just don't know yet.

But, I have gotten my EGR delete plate, and I went ahead and got my custom plate odered sine it'll take a month to get. BTW, it's now BLWNAWA instead of BLWNAWY.

So everything is ready, I'm just waiting. k:

Re: Project BLWNAWY Commences

the 03 cobra hood looks very odd with out the 03 cobra bumper, cant run the hood without the bumper (oem 03 cobra hood that is, cervinis makes one that works i think) just an FYI.

Ok, that's right isn't hood clearance very tight somewhere if you don't get the front too?

Re: Project BLWNAWY Commences

the hood will have a gap unless you use the 03 cobra front bumper, like a 2 inch gap. The 03 cobra front mounts higher in the middle, its odd.

Re: Project BLWNAWY Commences

*Update*

My piping will be shipped out on Monday, so I'm expecting it by Thursday. I'm off the following Friday from everything, so I'm hoping that day I'll get the mass of the work done.

Schedule for Friday:
Remove front bumper and everything that has to be taken out of the engine bay: air intake, intake manifold, battery, radiator overflow, exhaust manifolds, fan.
Install new injectors.
Delete EGR system.
Install turbo headers.
Install header to turbo piping.
Possibly get my tranny cooler mounted.
I may have to stop there for a while depending on when the second half of the kit comes in. If he sends me the fitting for the oil pan with the first part, I'll go ahead and do that before I get too much stuff in the way.

Oh and I've changed out my sparkly light show A/F gauge for a oil temperature gauge. The wonders of working for a parts store.
And I should now have the rest of the stuff besides the piping in a week. So WOOT!

Re: Project BLWNAWY Commences

Well I got my piping in yesterday, I spent about 2 hours machining them to get off some of the big weld "goobers" that weren't around any seams, and I was going to use my Dremel to get the stuff in the creases and hard to get to areas, but it burned out on me. The pipes I wasn't able to get the most off of were the headers, but no one will be able to see most of them so I'm not that concerned about it. All the piping that will be easily visible, I got cleaned up pretty good. I then spray painted them with aluminum 1200 degree ceramic engine enamel. They are in the oven curing right now. We'll see if it sticks or not, I'm afraid it won't after a while with the turbo heat, but we will see. I will try to get pics up today, but I am inefficient at gettting them from the camera to the computer. I took before and will take after pictures.

I also got my tag in already, I'm not putting it on until just before I put it on the trailer to be tuned. I'm off Wednesday, so I might begin the tear down while waiting on the rest of the components.

Re: Project BLWNAWY Commences

Well, today and yesterday I worked on it for a little bit. I have some pics that will post later, I may end up just posting them all together causing a 56k dial up from hell, but oh well.

I've installed my new injectors, which I do have a question about: In order for the new Ford 39# injectors to seat properly, I had to drill out the holes on the fuel rail where it bolts down to the lower intake manifold because the new ones were slightly shorter than the stockers...is this normal?

I've installed the new plugs, and the new headers, deleted the EGR. I've put the intake manifold back on, and I pretty much have to stop there until I get the rest in. All that was the hard part though, the rest should be pretty easy. Mostly hooking up the piping that sits right there in the front and running lines and such. I'll tap the pan as soon as I get the fitting in. I'll be keeping ya'll posted.

(Yes I'm taking pics)
