Good news and bad news

The good news is that what I thought was a cracked header is actually my header disconnected from my cat. Guess i hit something and that stock weld just failed.

The bad news is that now i have to return the bbk shortie headers to AM. I would just keep them, but they were pretty expensive and i'd have to pay to have them installed. i certainly dont have the expertise to do them, nor does my good friend who knows tons more than i do. those bolts are just too hard to get to.

sadness.

Re: Good news and bad news

I take it this is on the passenger side? They are known to break...

And it doesn't get much easier than doing headers on a V6, you have more room than anything else to do work.

Re: Good news and bad news

i know right. compared to the v8s and the cobras, v6s are spacey. but i still didnt see how i could get to all the bolts. even from underneath the car. (talking mostly passenger side here) even with the CAI off it still look impossible. obviously it can be done, but i neither i nor my friend could see how.

You can undo all the bolts to the head from the top, the bolts leading to the y-pipe are undone from the bottom.

Re: Good news and bad news

had the same problem. the problem is when using your a/c system it has a tedency to "sweat" and drip right on to the junction weld between the cat and midpipe. solution it to re-weld it. and keep the headers. they're not hard to put on @ all. if u need advice lemme know. i can give ya a step by step on the install of the headers if ya like.

Re: Good news and bad news

Hey thanks BIG_K. the step by step ones on AM are pretty good, but maybe you got somethin better. I am planning on reselling them... but i need to sell it to as close to the buying price as i can. I mean, crap i only opened the box. took nothing out of the packaging. Nothing! but since the box is open AM wont take it back. Lame. If i cant resell them, i'll install em

Congrats on getting in. This is my last year at USC. dont leave stay in school as long as you can it is one of the best times of your life!

As for the split in the header and cat. Mine did the same thing and I thought it was because of me scrapping b/c of being lowered but its what BIG K said about the A/C. If you ever drive with the A/C on for awhile and go park and cut off your car you can hear the water drip on the cat and you can hear it sizzling!

To repair it is just a simple weld that your local exhaust guy can do and should not cost more than $120. It takes at tops 1 hour of labor and its a simple weld for those guys.

Re: Good news and bad news

heh heh I always did wonder what that sizzling noise was. Now I know. It was my AC destroying my cat weld! lol yeah, I got it all fixed now. $135 close enough. Now I'm just stuck with those headers...
