2005 V6 Exhaust Question

So, I have a 2005 v6 vert, and I wanted to make her sound louder; but I'm new to all of this car stuff and I have no idea of what to look for.
I know one things for sure... I don't want a fart can! lol... I know ya'll hate ricers as much as I do. But, I want a muffler with a little more sound to it. Or a dual exhaust would be nice; but I don't know...

Any suggestions/ recommendations on what to look for or what to get or where to look? Any websites to see and learn about these things?

Thanks for your help guys

Re: need some help

they make kits for your car, but you may be just as happy with a set of GT Take off axle back mufflers. Sure you will have to get some fabrication done, wont be to bad.

You would buy a kit that simply bolts up I am sure as well. i would definatly get the GT rear bumper or what not so both tips have exit locations in the bumper.

The OEM gt mufflers wont sound much louder at idle but you will hear a bit more from them reving and driving around, just not a HUGE difference.

Re: need some help

gt takeoffs are always a good bet if you're constrained by a budget, in this case though, i believe you'd have to swap everything back from the catalytic converters; gt h pipe, flow tubes, mufflers and tips

if you want something a bit louder than takeoffs, magnaflows are a good choice also... just find a reputable shop in your area and tell them what you want

gt takeoffs shouldn't cost more than $500 total (parts and labor)

also, to complete the look you'll either have to cut a groove in your v6 bumper for the additional tailpipe, or buy a gt bumper

Kind of depends on the look and sound you're after. Magnaflow, Flowmaster, MAC, JBA (and more), all make an axle back system with a single exit, fits the stock location, no cutting at all is involved, just unbolt the stock muffler and bolt in the new one. They are definitely louder than stock, some louder than others (Flowmaster and Magnaflow), but the ease of install is a good thing. The downside is, of course, there's still only one pipe, but if you're not worried about duals, this is by far the easiest way to go. Not necessarily the cheapest ($150-$250, depending on how good a shopper you are), but definitely the easiest.

Re: 2005 V6 Exhaust Question

ive seen plenty cars that make more hp with flowmasters.... they may not be the best but they definatly dont cost you hp/tq in 99% of the cases used.

Guess I'll have to disagree here, from personal experience. Single Flowmaster on my 240 (replacing a Magnaflow) was worth almost 5 hp. It sounded like crap though. Same setup on my Neon (homebuilt turbo system, 242 whp) was worth 2 extra hp, barely worth mentioning. Also gained 12hp with a dual setup on my old '86 Capri RS 5.0, replacing Walkers. Personally, I don't like the way they sound, but after being present for too many dyno pulls to count, I've never seen a run where they cost hp.

Re: 2005 V6 Exhaust Question

Sorry, I should have been more specific, Flowmasters vs Magnaflows. In most dyno tests the flowmasters were losing about 20hp on engines running over 300 hp and almost 30hp above 350hp.

Man... I'd like to see these tests. I'd ditch my Flowmasters for some Magnaflows for 30 more horsepower.

Mustang Muffler Comparison.

I guess that's why I still have Flowmasters. I think the sound (and price) justifies the negligible 3hp difference.

Re: 2005 V6 Exhaust Question

I just read a guys post where he dynoed after flowmasters, put down over 400rwhp and has flowmasters, gained good hp/tq from them. I dont know where you are getting that data... but flowmasters flow better than stock..... sure other brands may give more, and im sure do, but... flowmasters also give power over stock in nearly all cases.

Re: 2005 V6 Exhaust Question

Most of the dual kits include a second Y pipe, not a good way to go in my opinion, on mine they cut the Y, made two pieces to join to it. I used stock GT mufflers, stock pipe on the right side, and he made one for the left side. Its true dual, just no crossover in there.

what difference would that make? You could have a shop fab up the pipes and weld them in for cheap...
