1996 v6 coupe

I'm thinking of buying a '96 V6 coupe with 120k miles , thing is in awesome condition and has been in my family since it was new. My cousin wants 2.5k for it , i have driven it and it runs very well , all the papers for services and oil changes etc .. and a clean carfax report.
Meh , you know how family can be just wandering if you guys think i can get a better price? I want the car and he doesnt need to sell it so he aint hurtin for money.

*5speed
*interior is immaculate
*new tires
*lazer red
*great stereo
*all my cousin does is go to church and work on cars
*runs great and has been well maintained

Thanks for any replies
, Benny

2k for a good runing nice clean car sounds good to me, note that until mid 96 there are known head gasket issues, the car may have had them replaced and it may not suffer from the issue~ ford MIGHT can tell you but chances are they will be ignorant and have no idea.

Re: 1996 v6 coupe

No head gasket problems known to exist after all the years , car was made June 4th 1996 according to carfax.

Thanks for the reply , i should own my first stang in about a week from now
Maybe in a cpl years i'll upgrade to a late model GT .. are the trade in values for the cars good? Was thinking of trading in my 99 saturn and the stang for a down payment on a nicer one but i guess i should drive it around for awhile first hehe.

thanks again
, Benny

Re: 1996 v6 coupe

trade in values are cars generally blow, when I sold my 01 for my 03 I took out a loan and the bank didnt finalize the loan for 3 months giving me time to sell my other car. I then took the money from the sale and paid down on my 03's loan and closed it.

Re: 1996 v6 coupe

They really don't hold value at all...hell, decent mach 1's can be had with 30k miles for $13-14K, and they were $30,000 cars 6/7 years ago.

I'd say 2.5K is a pretty fair price for the car if it's in great shape. There are plenty of crap box 94-98 v6's for sale for more than that, and people have bought them, so I'd say you're getting a pretty good deal, especially if he doesn't have to sell it.

Even if it were a price I was willing to pay, I would still try to talk someone down.

Oh it's definitely worth a try, can't hurt anything, but if he doesn't want to budge on the price, I'd still consider the car.

Re: 1996 v6 coupe

Same here. When I bought my car i was fine with the price then kinda talked about how expensive tires are and ended up saving 50 bucks.

ha, nice. The salesman I bought my car from knocked off another $500 to help me out because I was buying it when I was 15. The dealership had already dropped the price from $15500 to $11000 as a "summer clearance sale", so that extra $500 was the ****.

Re: 1996 v6 coupe

thanks for all the info

Had the car for about a week or so now and it really drives well. Very clean inside and out , tires are new as well and came with a full tank

Only problems i have so far is the tint on the windows is peeling in a cpl places (easy fix) but the clutch pedal makes a squeaking noise when no pressure is applied. As soon as i press down on the clutch a couple inches the squeaking stops. Don't know if that's an issue or not , seems to drive and shift pretty good .

I looked through some of the other clutch threads in a search but I'm not sure what i should be looking for so thanks for any advise in advance.

, Benny

could it be the throwout bearing. mine was doing a rattling noise but my mechanic said it doesnt start getting real bad(that you need to change it) until it starts squeaking but i went and changed it anyways. mines in the shop now but we will see what happens, it could probably be that
